The most intriguing and somewhat confusing announcement to come out of Square Enix’s presentation was the reveal of a brand new title called The Quiet Man. No details were given for the game, besides the short teaser that was presented to us that showed off a man who starts to beat up on some guys who were harassing him in an alleyway. The teaser trailer sported a live-action sequence in the beginning and then changed to in-engine footage when the characters started fighting one another.

If you check out the official description of the game on its YouTube trailer, it says that the game can be completed in one sitting and that The Quiet Man “delivers an immersive story driven cinematic action experience seamlessly blending high-production live action, realistic CG and pulse-pounding action gameplay.”

If The Quiet Man ends up being a two to three hour cinematic experience that has me fighting dudes while pushing me through a linear-ish story, then sign me up. We didn’t learn much from this teaser, but according to Square Enix, we will be seeing more of the game come August, so keep your fingers crossed.

After hearing that Marvel and Square Enix would be collaborating on not one, but multiple games set in the Marvel universe, us comic book geeks lost our marbles. Crystal Dynamics announced that they would be working on the first title, which is a third-person action-adventure game that will sport some type of online component with Avengers characters. We were told that this game would be coming sometime in 2018, but Square Enix’s conference is now over and we didn’t see or hear anything about a Marvel game, which is pretty disappointing.

All of the other details that we know about this upcoming Avengers game is that some of our favorite heroes, such as Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, and Iron Man, will be making an appearance. There are tons of questions that we have about these collaborations, but I guess that we will just have to wait until Square Enix is ready to show off some more details on the highly anticipated title.

Let’s go back to E3 2015, the year that Sony had that spectacular conference in which they unveiled the grand news that Final Fantasy VII Remake is in production. Since that fated day, we haven’t heard much about the long-awaited remake except the huge detail that the game would be split up into several different “episodes” of sorts and will feature real-time gameplay, similar to other Square Enix titles such as Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts.

We still have Sony’s press conference later today, in which we might get a new trailer or release date for this Final Fantasy VII remake, but Square Enix didn’t show anything related to the development of the game, not even a sizzle reel. We still don’t know when this game is supposed to come out and we haven’t seen much gameplay either. Square Enix might have jumped the gun a little bit when it came to the initial reveal for this title, but that’s Square Enix for ya.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age looks glorious as ever and Square Enix did a fantastic job at making fans of the old-school JRPG leap for joy at the thought of playing a proper, numbered Dragon Quest title on a home console. Square has said that Dragon Quest XI is in the works for the Switch as well as PS4 and PC, but we still don’t know when that Switch version is coming out.

Dragon Quest XI launches for PS4 and PC (via Steam) on Sept. 4, and while we are all so excited to check it out, it was unfortunate that Square Enix couldn’t tell us anything about the Switch port. Here’s hoping Nintendo’s presentation will deliver some much-needed answers.
