The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset (PS4, Xbox One, PC – June 5)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
The Elder Scrolls Online has come on leaps and bounds since its console release back in 2014. The game has already seen the arrival of one major expansion last year in the form of Morrowind, and Summerset intends to continue to pack even more quests and grinding fun on top of the base experience when it releases this week.
Summerset will take players to the home of the High Elves that goes by the very same name as the expansion for the first time. As you explore this mystical new land, players will meet a new Psijic Order they can join, new abilities they can learn to become even more powerful, and you’ll also uncover the mysteries of Summerset while you’re at it. The narrative from the base game will also finally be tied up in a neat little bow, here, so if you’ve been pouring hours into The Elder Scrolls Online, Summerset should definitely be an expansion worth picking up in June 2018.
Onrush (PS4, Xbox One – June 5)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
We haven’t seen all that many games like Onrush for a while. The Forza series may have its Horizon spin-off series, offering a fun arcade spin on the simulation racing the Motorsport series is renowned for, but it’s still not the same insane kind of action you’ll get in Onrush. Sure, this is a racer, but it also includes things such as Takedowns (a la Burnout), the Rush system which grants each vehicle its own insane speed boost that’s both unique in its look and execution; and oddly enough, it’s not always about even finishing in first position.
Onrush has clearly taken inspiration from the likes of Burnout and Motorstorm. However, it’s its emphasis on team-based play that makes it quite unlike anything else out there, and a heck of a lot more fun than simply gunning for the finish line.
Vampyr (PS4, Xbox One, PC – June 5)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
Set in Victorian London, Vampyr is a pretty new direction for Dontnod Entertainment. Rather than the action-light, narrative-driven experience we got in the developer’s Life Is Strange, Vampyr is more about fast-paced action and RPG elements. Though, your choices will still have a pretty huge impact on how things play out in the game.
You’ll assume the role of Jonathan Reid, a doctor intent on helping to save the flu-ravaged city of London whose also trying to come to terms with the after-effects of being bitten by a vampire. You’ll be hunted through the streets and will need to use your newly-found powers to defend yourself against vampire hunters and all other manner of enemies, while also ensuring you manage to cure citizens before it’s too late. It may not be in the same vein entirely as Life Is Strange, but if you’re intrigued by what the developer is up to next, and playing as a vampire sounds like a heck of a lot of fun to you, Vampyr is definitely worth checking out.
Jurassic World Evolution (PC, PS4, Xbox One – June 12)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
If you sat there and questioned why they made certain ridiculous decisions in Jurassic Park, or just felt that you wouldn’t put the entirety of the park’s visitors at risk of death, then Jurassic World Evolution has finally arrived to give you the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.
Not only are you free to create the park you’ve always wanted to, and decide whether you use your newly-bred dinos for entertainment, research, or protection, but there’s also an all-new narrative featuring iconic characters such as Dr. Ian Malcolm, voiced by Jeff Goldblum himself. It won’t all be smooth sailing, though, with escapes, espionage, and more randomly occurring to bring your park to the ground.
Mario Tennis Aces (Switch – June 22)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
Mario has tried his hand at a ton of sports by this point. Soccer? Check. Olympic events? Triple check. Golf? Check. Heck, he’s even done tennis before, but we’re not going to complain, because the plumber’s sport side-outings are some of the best fun we’ve had on a Nintendo system with our friends.
Mario Tennis Aces serves up a dose of tennis action right in time for the summer. Mario will be rejoined by a whole host of iconic characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, each with their own unique power shots and special abilities to give them the upper hand. With a story mode to keep solo players happy and both online and local multiplayer modes for those who like to play against other players, there’s plenty of content to keep Mario Tennis Aces loaded in your Switch for months on end.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Switch, Xbox One, PC – June 26)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
Crash Bandicoot is essentially a household name of the video game world at this point. Having released some iconic adventures on the original PlayStation, and having had ample spin-offs since, players of all ages have a soft spot for the shorts-wearing bandicoot. But, as great as some of these later adventures were, they just weren’t quite the same as the original trilogy.
And that’s why they finally made a return in remade glory courtesy of Bluepoint Studios last year on PS4. Though his initial return may have been on Sony’s system last year, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch owners will also get to join in the platforming fun later this month. These aren’t just straight remakes, though, with new save systems, a complete rework of the visuals, and new neat little features crammed in to bring these three ’90s adventures into 2018.
The Crew 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC – June 29)
Best Games to Look Forward to in June 2018
Ubisoft’s The Crew was a bit of a mixed bag when it released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC a few years ago. While its sprawling map of the United States had some real highlights, technical issues hindered the overall experience and resulted in gameplay that simply couldn’t do its enormous open world justice. Well, Ubisoft is back to take another stab at the series, and this time, you’ll be racing around in more than cars.
The Crew 2’s big new feature is the introduction of planes, boats, and motorcycles into its vehicle roster. You’ll be able to change between these on the fly as you go, making for some intense multi-part races, or crazy chases if you just want to fool around with your friends. As long as these vehicles pack in more races and events to fill out the map, The Crew 2 could be exactly what fans had hoped its predecessor would have been all along.
