YouTube on Nintendo Switch: What You Need to Know

What You Need to Know About YouTube on Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is one of 2017’s hottest devices, and it’s seen quite a few quality game releases like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. Of course, gaming probably isn’t the only thing you’ll want to use the hybrid system for. Like most modern games systems you might want to boot up a YouTube video here and there. Unfortunately, the bad news is that at the moment there currently isn’t a YouTube app on the Switch.

The first streaming app did launch on Switch a few months back, however, as users can now download and use Hulu if they have a subscription for it. Just because YouTube isn’t on the Switch now doesn’t mean it won’t ever be, though, as Nintendo has said that they’re looking into options for putting the apps on the system. In an interview with Business Insider, Nintendo of America’s senior public relations manager Kit Ellis pointed out the reason the Switch lacked any kind of apps around its launch.

“At launch we are really trying to be clear that this is a gaming device first, so you’re actually not gonna see a lot of that at launch. It doesn’t mean that it’s not going to come later on, but it likely won’t be there at launch.”

This means we might be waiting a while longer before we can expect to see YouTube on the Switch. Nintendo is clearly focusing all of their attention on games, and wants apps to come second. Still, if there’s any updates or announcement on the matter we’ll make sure to update this page.
