Star Wars Battlefront II
Top 5 Xbox One Co-Op Games of Q4 2017
Most of the time, games are made a lot more fun when someone else is joining in on the ride. Developers and publishers today all know this yet frequently resort to placing large groups of players against each other instead of bringing them together to work towards a common goal. Indeed, the inclusion of co-op modes in games is a rare sight, though the Xbox One is home to its fair of cooperative titles that players can enjoy side by side on a sofa. The following list consists of those games released in the past quarter of the year that stand out as the best should you and your friend be looking to resurrect old rivalries or want to settle a score from a long time ago.
It’s sufficient to say that Star Wars Battlefront II released to quite a bit of controversy on Xbox One back in November. Mircotransactions and a concern stemming from the amount of time it took to unlock playable heroes online stirred the internet into something akin to a frenzy, though it is good to know that now fans have been appeased through the removal of in-game transactions and a reassurance from publisher EA that criticisms regarding the title’s progression systems will be addressed on an ongoing basis.
There are some aspects of Star Wars Battlefront II that are perfectly fine as is, however, including the game’s inclusion of a co-op aspect in Arcade mode. The feature pits you and a buddy against waves of incoming enemies in a battle to see who will be the last person standing. It’s neat should you both want to explore the game’s multiplayer modes later on, as players are able to customize skirmishes to the classes they most want to use. Keep in mind that the mode is very much built with two players in mind, meaning that should you both venture in together, you’d best be prepared to take on enemies that are tougher and harder to kill than with one person alone.
Call of Duty: WW2
Top 5 Xbox One Co-Op Games of Q4 2017
Rest assured that the newest entry in the Call of Duty franchise titled Call of Duty: WW2 is actually a worthwhile entry in the long-running first-person shooter series. Aside from its narrative strides and impeccable gameplay mechanics, what makes this year’s title worth a purchase is the inclusion of a co-op mode on Xbox One that allows you and a buddy either take on waves of infested hordes in Nazi Zombies or challenge other players over in multiplayer. A huge plus of the latter feature is that the title’s full range of offerings including 1v1 play, Divisions, Team Deathmatch, and more are all available to play via splitscreen, meaning there’s no real incentive to be playing online alone anymore.
As you may have heard by now, Nazi Zombies is set apart from the main campaign of WW2 and pits you and a friend against waves of incoming human corpses just as in previous iterations in the franchise. What makes this year’s version of the mode a bit different is the inclusion of a hardcore path with an alternate ending for more seasoned veterans. Should you and your buddy find yourselves playing this path and unable to get past the sixth wave, rest easy knowing that WW2 allows both of you the ability to join up with two other players in order to reach wave seven, eight, nine, and more. Happy Nazi Zombie hunting!
Lego Marvel Superheroes 2
Top 5 Xbox One Co-Op Games of Q4 2017
Don’t let Lego Marvel Superheroes 2’s innocence and cuteness fool you. Behind all the adorableness of seeing Baby Groot scream while the other Guardians of the Galaxy fight a weird tentacled alien in the background lies a surprising complex ecosystem that relies on building and destruction mechanics. As if blowing things up and putting them back together doesn’t sound like fun in its own right, the latest entry in the Lego Marvel Superheroes series allows you to play with a buddy throughout the entire duration of the title’s campaign with no penalty inflicted should your friend have to drop out early.
This drop-in/drop-out mechanic makes the game accessible for anyone with even a passing interest in Lego or comic books and makes a perfect excuse to spend some quality time with your kid. Superheroes 2 adds the likes of Agent Venom, Baby Groot, Spider-Gwen, and more into the fold, so there’s definitely plenty to geek over if you’re into the Marvel universe, too.
Just Dance 2018
Top 5 Xbox One Co-Op Games of Q4 2017
Just Dance is one Ubisoft series that sees a release every year and seemingly sells no matter what, and it’s not to hard to see why. Reiterating with new hits to dance to and improving based on what’s popular in the world today, Just Dance 2018 includes the likes of “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars, “Side to Side” by Ariana Grande, “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, and “Naughty Girl” by everyone’s favorite Beyoncé, just to name a few.
Using Kinect to play on Xbox One is an actual delight with a friend as you both cooperate to perform the dance moves on screen while you simultaneously try to best each other’s scores. The magic lies in the ability for anyone to play, as your grandmother and your niece can both join in on the fun and make any night a good quality family bonding moment.
