FFXIV Stormblood:Â How to Unlock Shusui of the Violet Tides
Shusui is a semi-optional leveling dungeon unlockable in FFXIV: Stormblood. Well, optional insofar if you’re willing to never complete your aether currents for The Ruby Sea. Good luck getting around without that.
In order to unlock Shusui of the Violet Tides, you must first progress far enough into the main quest to unlock diving. Not long after that, you’ll have access to the settlement of Sui-no-Sato. Once you’ve completed a few quests there and gain the trust of the locals, quests will open from the town people, including Kurenai the NPC who will give you the quest you need: The Palace of Lost Souls. Speak to her to begin the quest.Â
She will eventually send you to the Turquoise Trench which can be reached by diving (super deep). Go all the way down toward the bottom left corner of the map (the dungeon is marked already on your map even if you’ve never explored there), and you’ll find the entrance to the dungeon.
The Shusui of the Violet Tides is quite straight forward. For the first boss, when the enemy marks and ensnares a teammate, just kill it’s leg ASAP to release them in time before a killing blow. For the second boss, when she tries to seduce you, run to a box not taken by a teammate which will grant you a special effect to dodge the attack. Also when she uses the volcanic eruption move, she will mark two teammates. If it’s you, run in a circle along the edge of the area to avoid the attacks, taking care to also avoid hitting enemy teammates with it. For the final boss, when she fogs up the room, destroy the chum as quickly as possible to reveal her. Just watch out for ripples in the water as anyone that gets caught by her bursting through will take lots of damage.
Once you finish the dungeon, wrap up the quest and you’ll receive permanent access to it, as well as a valuable aether current to allow you to fly throughout The Ruby Sea. That’s all there is to it for how to unlock Shusui of the Violet Tides in FFXIV: Stormblood. Congratulations!
