Resident Evil 7 Ethan Must Die – Survival Tips
Ethan Must Die is probably the most challenging mode we’ve gotten from the Resident Evil 7 DLCs so far. Think of it as a roguelike mode where you only have one life, and your item drops will be random each time you restart from the beginning. Not to mention, enemies can kill you in two or three hits, so you’ll really need to formulate a plan and be prepared each time you start a new run. We’ve put together a few tips to help you out in Ethan Must Die.
Go to the dining room: Your goal is to defeat Marguerite in the Greenhouse. To get the Greenhouse Key, you’ll need to make your way to the dining room where it’s located. However, you can’t just open the double doors from the living room; you’ll need to make your way through the basement and get access to the second floor of the house.
Listen for ticking crates: Ethan Must Die offers you items hidden in crates. However, some of these are traps that will explode if you hit them. Each time you see a crate, listen for a low ticking sound. If it ticks, it’s a bomb, so stay away from it.
Try to get your death statue: Whenever you die, Ethan leaves behind a death statue. If you can get to it during your next run, you’ll be rewarded with one random item from whatever you had in your inventory during your time of death.
The Survival Knife is ridiculously useful: You’ll want to conserve your ammo for the tough Marguerite fight. If you’re lucky enough to pick up the Survival Knife from a chest or crate, use it to defend yourself. It’s tough to rely on just a knife, but you’ll be surprised at how effective it is for taking down enemies quickly.
Always go to the Grenade Launcher room: Remember that one room you needed the Raven Key in order to unlock? It holds the Grenade Launcher in the main campaign, and in Ethan Must Die, it has a high-level crate. Always grab this crate during your runs, as it’ll likely reward you with a valuable item or weapon. It’s also one of the safer high-level crates to get to.
The Marguerite fight plays out pretty much the same as it does in the campaign. You’ll want to hit her bug nest with the Burner or Grenade Launcher if you have those, and then unload the rest of your firepower on her. Just play it safe, let her come to you, and you should be alright.
Resident Evil 7 is now available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
