How to Get Hearts – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

If you’ve ever played a Zelda game, then you know that hearts are very important. After all, they serve as your health bar, so no hearts equals a dead Link (and nobody, aside from Ganon, wants that). Thankfully, you’re able to increase the amount of hearts you have in Zelda: Breath of the Wild, though it works a bit differently this time around. To help you out, we’ll walk you through how to get hearts in Breath of the Wild.

You won’t just find or earn heart pieces, you have to unlock them using Spirit Orbs. Spirit Orbs are obtained by completing Shrines. There are over a hundred of these in the game, so you’ll have your work cut out for you collecting them all. The good thing is that locating these spots in Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t too difficult. When near one, your Sheikah Slate will notify you and a small meter near your map will fill up as you get close. Another way is to head to a high point and scan the area. If you see a red spot, that’s a shrine you haven’t completed and you can set a waypoint for it.

Once you have your Spirit Orbs you can head to a goddess statue. The first one you’ll find is in the Temple of Time, but you can find smaller ones in towns you come across while playing. Here, you can spend your Spirit Orbs to obtain Hearts, increasing your overall health.
