How to Use Voice Chat – Nintendo Switch
Nintendo is taking the online component of the Nintendo Switch more seriously. It will start as free, but will eventually be a paid, premium subscription that includes lobbies, matchmaking, and voice chat. Unfortunately, this service isn’t available at the moment, and there is no way to use voice chat through the console itself at this time.
Down the line, voice chat for the Nintendo Switch will actually be handled by an upcoming app for smart devices that you will use to connect to your account and your friends, as well as those you happen to be in a game with. There’s no word on whether or not the company will decide to add a voice chat app directly to the console itself.
In an interview, Reggie explained the reasoning behind the mobile app voice chat decision: “we want to reinforce the capability to take your experience with you on the go…. The ability to do matchmaking, voice chat through your phone, it’s a hell of a lot more convenient than having a gamer headset stuck into your backpack trying to do that. That’s why we’re doing it the way we are. We see the convenience, we see the ease of delivery. We think it’s going to lead to a better experience.”
We’ll be sure to update this guide once more information is made available, such as the release date for the multiplayer app that is due out some time in March. Until then, make sure to check back in to Twinfinite for all of your Nintendo Switch needs.
