Which February PS Plus Titles Are Worth Your Time?

Spend your time wisely.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

LittleBigPlanet 3

Recommended Videos

littlebigplanet 3

LittleBigPlanet 3 sees Sackboy’s return to his adorable platforming action. However, this time around he’s brought some friends with him for the ride. Players will have to use each character’s special ability to help them navigate the game’s handcrafted worlds. You’ll also have to burst bubbles and collect accessories on your way through the game, too.

Whether or not LittleBigPlanet 3 is worth your time comes down to if you actually like the series. As a sequel, it’s not changing anything drastically from the previous games. However, if you were a fan of the cute platforming fun, then you’ll likely appreciate the new creation tools and diverse abilities provided by Sackboy’s friends.

Metacritic Score: 79

Not a Hero

not a hero

Not a Hero puts you in the role of Steve. A former assassin who is now a campaign manager for his boss… who’s a pink bunny from the future. Yes, it’s as weird as it sounds. Not a Hero is a 2D cover-based shooter that sees Steve and his friends clean up the city.

With its charming retro visuals and bizarre storyline, Not a Hero is definitely different. Unfortunately, its charm slowly wears off when the difficulty spikes pretty early on. Combined with its loose controls, Not a Hero can become more frustrating than fun. If you’re looking for challenging, fast-paced fun, though, then it’s worth checking out.

Metacritic Score: 74

Starwhal

starwhal

Ever wanted to be a narwhal in vibrantly-colored arenas attacking other narwhals? We thought so, and that’s exactly what Starhwal allows you to do. Players will have to control their narwhal’s wiggles to evade incoming attacks and deal damage out to other players. The game has 25 arenas and four game modes for players to try out, too.

As a free PS Plus game in February, Starwhal is a pretty neat addition to your library. It’s unlikely you’ll spend a ton of time with it when you’re on your own, however, it’s definitely great fun when you’ve got your friends over. Starhwal has an easy learning curve, too, meaning that just about anyone can get into the chaotic and bizarre action.

Metacritic Score: 78

Anna: Extended Edition

anna game

Anna: Extended Edition puts players in an abandoned sawmill in the Italian mountains and tasks them with searching for clues and solving creepy puzzles in order to get out. This isn’t just a port of the game, though. Anna: Extended Edition is the result of a ton of player feedback on the original game. The Extended Edition brings a complete overhaul of the original title, making for more environments and levels, improved visuals, and sleeker UI.

While the extended edition certainly improves upon its predecessor with larger areas to explore and a stronger narrative, it’s not going to steal the crown of best horror game anytime soon.

Metacritic Score: 75 (PC as only one review for PS3)

Ninja Senki DX

ninja senki dx

Ninja Senki DX throws players into the role of Hayate, a fairly new ninja who’s intent on defeating the demon that killed the princess. What results is a frantic mix of rhythmic platforming and fast-paced beat ’em up gameplay. There are 16 levels to make your way through in the game’s main campaign, and there’s a challenge mode if you want to really test your skills.

Unfortunately, Ninja Senki DX is possible the weakest of February’s PS Plus offerings. While it may lend from the past for its stunning visuals and challenging gameplay, it struggles to bring anything new to keep it fresh. This leads to the game getting pretty repetitive after only a short period of time. Definitely not for everyone.

Metacritic Score: 64

TorqueL

torquel

Rounding off February’s PS Plus free games is TorqueL. This puzzle game tasks you with navigating a tiny cube man through 50 different levels. You won’t just simply run and jump through the levels, though. This tiny cube man has the ability to attach itself to surrounding objects. A particularly handy skill when trying to make your way to the other side of shape-filled levels.

What TorqueL does right is bring an incredibly neat mechanic to a genre that requires something special to stand out. Unfortunately, over the course of its 50 levels, TorqueL never manages to fully execute this into truly incredible puzzles. Puzzle fans will find something to love here, but for everyone else, you may want to pass up on this.

Metacritic Score: 65
