Valentine’s Day is here, so to celebrate this time of love, let’s look at some of the best video game characters that belong together, but have yet to be. Rather than the best video game couples, these are the ships we’re all still waiting for. Also, there are no crossover ships on this list. We have a separate piece dedicated solely to crossover love that you can check out here.

Gordon Freeman is the silent protagonist from the Half-Life series, and Alyx is his tech savvy sidekick. They have a great partnership, they complement each other well, and Alyx’s casually flirting with Gordon throughout the entire series is one of the best dynamics between the two characters. Plus, we are not the only ones keeping an eye on this ship. Alyx’s father, Eli Vance, seems to ship them as well, often making jokes about the two of them making him some grandkids.

wind waker link and zelda

Link and Zelda have various iterations of the themselves across The Legend of Zelda timeline. In some games, such as The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, their flirtations reach levels of downright adorable. Despite this, they have never committed to each other in an official way. It is endlessly frustrating for most Zelda fans, especially considering the pair’s countless adventures and noble quests. It would be nice just to see them become an official couple at some point. Maybe Breath of the Wild will complete the love story we have been waiting for through three timelines of stories.

Chloe Price/Max Caulfield

life is strange

Chloe and Max’s journey throughout the course of Life is Strange is as emotional as it is touching. Even though the two girls had lost touch for a while, the adventures and hardships they went through in the course of just five episodes was enough bonding time to last a lifetime. The feelings between Chloe and Max are a bit ambiguous, but it is obvious that they truly do love each other. Their devotion can be seen in the way Max bends time and reality to keep Chloe alive, and Chloe’s support for Max is clear through her power discovery. Plus, the majority of players chose for Max to kiss Chloe in Episode Three, so we know the fans want it too.

Tifa and Cloud

Cloud-and-Tifa

Tifa and Cloud have one of those classic love stories where two childhood friends grow up together and fall in love. Except for the fact that one of them falls in love with someone else. Cloud’s crush on Aerith seemed to end all hope for a romance between Tifa and Cloud, until she was shockingly killed by Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII. Cloud’s mourning period did put a bit of a rift in between Cloud and Tifa’s romantic relationship, but there is still hope for them to have something official in the future.

Pharah and Mercy

The Overwatch community is quite vocal with their ships. The fans do not wait for canon, but instead create their own through piles and piles of fan art and fan fiction. And one of the most popular ships is undoubtedly Pharah and Mercy.

McHanzo was close to making the list, but Pharah and Mercy’s non-existing canon is supported in their gameplay. A Pharah with a Mercy pocket healing them during matches makes for one one of the most dangerous combos in Overwatch. We like to believe the reason why the in-game synergy between Mercy and Pharah works so well is because they have love guiding them to victory. That probably isn’t the case, but a fan can dream.
