The newest entry into the Halo series is finally here! As with all other Halo games, the developers were kind enough to design some brand new weapons. That’s not all you can find in Halo 5: Guardians, though. There’s plenty of variants for old favorites, but in this list, we’ll only cover the absolute newest tools of destruction available in the game.
You’ll find the variants hidden in the single player portion, but in multiplayer, you’ll have to activate them using REQ cards. Even though there aren’t any brand new Promethean weapons, the ones that are coming back from Halo 4 received a well-deserved revamp. Again, let’s take a look at the brand new ones in Halo 5: Guardians.
Plasma Caster
Remember the awful Concussion Rifle in Halo: Reach and Halo 4? Well, developer 343 Industries evolved that weapon into the Plasma Caster. Though it handles identical to the Concussion Rifle of old, the Plasma Caster can now be charged up. After fully charging the weapon, the Plasma Caster shoots out a single-shot projectile that can unleash tremendous damage from its multiple explosions. Of course, if you decide you would rather spam out tiny explosions, you have that option too with its semi-automatic firing option. Who said only the UNSC weapons have all the fun?
M57 Rocket Launcher
The UNSC deemed us worthy of an upgrade from the old Rocket Launchers from previous games. Even though it will truly be missed, the M57 harkens back to the godly powers of the Rocket Launcher from Halo 2. With the M57 Rocket Launcher, you will now be able to lock onto enemy vehicles while zoomed in, making this the only explosive weapon you’ll ever need.
Splinter Turret
There’s plenty of detachable turrets that can be found in Halo 5: Guardians, but most notable (and newest) is the Splinter Turret. While shooting the turret, when the rounds hit the ground or an enemy, they will burst into smaller explosives. This is the ultimate weapon to use when you need to clear out a confined space. Just be careful when encountering enemy Promethean Soldiers, they have been known to carry this turret Rambo-style and obliterate any Spartans that happen to get in their way.
Hydra Launcher
This new weapon is similar to the M57 Rocket Launcher because it also has a tracking feature, except the Hydra can lock onto enemy soldiers. Though weaker than its cousin, the Hydra Launcher can still dish out massive damage to anyone in close proximity. You can also lock onto vehicles as well, though you would be much better off using a Spartan Laser or another explosive. If you see this in Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer, you are almost guaranteed a quick death if you’re caught out in the open. Hail Hydra!
That’s it for the newest weapons featured in Halo 5: Guardians. Even though it doesn’t seem like much, there’s still plenty of weapon variants found in the game — expanding the already sizable arsenal of the Halo franchise. As I said previously, the Promethean weapons received massive updates and now they finally feel like they’re worth using.
