How do you find bees in Minecraft? How do you get honey in Minecraft? And what about honeycomb and beehives? In this guide, we’ve got everything you need to know about the buzzy black and yellow things, so you can get them working for you in Minecraft.
Where to Find Bees in Minecraft
Bees in Minecraft can be found in the meadow biome and are guaranteed to spawn here. They’ll be found in or around beehives, attached to the side of either birch or oak trees.
Bees also have a chance of spawning in plains, sunflower plaints, flower forests, forests, birch forests and on birch trees.
Any of these will contains oak and birch trees which have a 5% chance of having a bee nest during world generation. The best place to find bees in Minecraft is the Flower Forest, as there are tons of trees and plants.
This is important because plenty of trees means plenty of spawn opportunities, while plants will help Minecraft bees make honey quickly.
Another easy way of finding Minecraft bees is to simply follow one home if you’re about exploring the world and see one buzzing around. Bees won’t do this at night, or if it’s raining or snowing. It has to be suitable weather for a bee, after all.
After a while, a bee will slowly make its way back to its nest or hive. Just follow it and you’ll now be able to get all of the honey or honeycomb you’re after.
How to Breed Minecraft Bees
Pick up any flower and hold it by selecting it from your inventory bar. This will cause a nearby bee to follow you.
Give the flower to the bee by pressing L2/ LT/ RMB and love hearts will appear around it. Do this with another bee and they’ll both now be in love mode and will create a baby bee.
Breeding bees has a five minute cooldown, so in the meantime, look to harvest some honey, find more flowers, or shear off some honeycomb while you wait.
How to Get Honey in Minecraft
To get honey in Minecraft, you’ll need to harvest it from a beehive or bee nest. These will only be ready for you to harvest once enough bees have returned to the nest with pollen.
Each beehive houses three bees. Each bee will leave one at a time during the day, flying around and pollinating different flowers. When they’ve done this, their appearance will change and they’ll soon return to their beehive.
Once this has happened five times, you’ll notice that the beehive looks a little different. It will be literally dripping with honey.
When this happens, walk over to the hive and use a glass bottle. This will give you a Honey Bottle.
What Is Honey Used For in Minecraft?
Honey can be used to restore six hunger and 2.4 saturation. It even has antidote properties, meaning that it’ll remove any Poison status effects you might have picked up on your travels.
Simply select the Honey Bottle and use it to drink it.
How to Get Honeycomb in Minecraft
To get honeycomb in Minecraft you’ll need to use shears on a bee nest or hive. Both of these will grant between one and three pieces of honeycomb depending on how much honey is in the nest/ hive.
It’s worth noting that using shears on the nest or the hive will cause Minecraft bees to be hostile to you. To prevent this from happening, either use shears with the ‘Silk Touch’ enchantment, or place a campfire beneath the nest/ hive. This will cause the bees to stay inside the hive in ‘chill mode’ so they won’t attack you and die.
What Is Honeycomb Used For?
Four bits of honeycomb can be combined together in Minecraft to make a Honeycomb Block. This is simply a decorative block you can use to spruce up your house or even just your outdoor surroundings.
The main use for honeycomb in Minecraft, though, comes in the form of making yourself another beehive.
How to Craft a Beehive in Minecraft
A beehive is made by combining six wood planks with three bits of honeycomb in the center row of the 3×3 grid.
You’ll then have a beehive which you can attach to a tree near to your house, so you won’t have to venture far for honey ever again.
