Downward headers are some of the most overpowered attacking options you have in your arsenal in FIFA 22. Because the keeper has to get down low to save it, and because there’s a chance it’ll bounce before reaching the goal, using a downward headers makes it far more likely you’ll score than if you headed the ball normally. Here’s how to score downward headers in FIFA 22.

How to Score Downward Headers in FIFA 22 (PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

To score downward headers in FIFA 21, you’ll first need to make sure you’re crossing the ball in the air towards the player you want to score. This can either be done from a free kick, corner, or just crossing the ball into the box from elsewhere on the pitch.

As the ball is about to reach the player in the box, press the shoot button while holding the two bumpers or shoulder buttons on your console. We’ve included the specific button prompts for each platform down below.

As long as you press these buttons at the right time and hold them down until the heading animation’s finished, you should perform a downwards header in FIFA 22.

You can use the left analog stick while entering the button inputs above to direct where you want your downwards header to go. You don’t want it going straight at the keeper, after all!

The trick to scoring downward headers is all about getting the timing right. Press the button inputs just before your player heads the ball to ensure it’s going to hit the target.

You’re not always going to score with downwards headers, but they’re much improved from FIFA 20, which appeared to nerf crossing and headers to a ridiculous extent.
