Outriders: How to Switch to Third Weapon (Sidearm)

Outriders, despite focusing heavily on its story as well, is a shooter through and through. It mashes together elements of Destiny, Borderlands, Mass Effect and The Division to create a game that somehow still has its own flair. If you’re here, you’re probably wondering how to switch to your third weapon AKA your pistol in Outriders. It isn’t explicitly explained and you not have caught how to do it yourself. Don’t worry, allow us to explain.

How to Switch to Third Weapon in Outriders (Sidearm)

Fortunately, it’s very easy to do.

Normally, to switch between your primary and secondary weapons, you’d simply tap Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox. To switch to your third weapon, AKA your sidearm, you’ll actually want to just hold that same button instead.
Whether you’re currently using your primary or secondary weapon, if you hold that button you’ll swap to your sidearm and can begin firing it the same way you would any other weapon.

There are times where you’ll want to whip out the sidearm. First, and most importantly, the sidearm does not have ammo restraints. While it will need to reload when the magazine is empty, you have unlimited reserves. Meaning if you’re out on your other two guns, or want to preserve their ammo, you can always count on this third weapon to be there for you.

Second, it can be used to complement the other two guns you are using. For example, if you’re using very short-range weapons, your third weapon could be something with a bit more range so that way you’re not completely stuck having to fight at a close range.

Lastly, it’s a good gun to swap to if you want to avoid reloading. If you just need to finish something off quickly (perhaps before getting killed yourself), hold that button and fire away to get the last few shots off.

That’s all you need to know for how to equip your third weapon, aka your sidearm, in Outriders. For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered, be sure to check out our Outriders wiki guide or some of our other guides below.
