Catherine or Shamir?

During the game’s first act, you’ll come across Catherine and Shamir having a friendly debate while you’re exploring the Monastery. Talking to both of them will allow you to receive two separate side quests where you need to give them a Two-Toned Whetsone.

The problem is, you can only get one Two-Toned Whetstone, which means that you can only make one of them happy.

Accepting the quest starts a hilarious long chain of fetch quests where you have to deliver items to different people in the Monastery, until you finally receive the Whetsone from Linhardt. And then it’s time to make a choice.

If you give the Two-Toned Whetstone to Catherine, you’ll get a Silver Sword, plus some support points with her.

And if you give it to Shamir, you’ll get a Silver Bow, and some support points as well.

Choosing one character over the other won’t negatively affect your support rank with the one who got left out, so you don’t have to worry too much about that, and just focus on which weapon type you need more, or which character you want to rank up with.

Ultimately, it all boils down to whether you need the sword or bow more, and which weapon type will benefit your roster lineup more. It’s also worth noting that silver swords and bows can be purchased in the second act of the game, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on a particular weapon for the rest of the game.

That’s all you need to know about who to give the Two-Toned Whetstone to in Fire Emblem Three Houses. Be sure to check our Fire Emblem Three Houses guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
