best mobile games worth your time

If you’re a human being, you’ve probably dealt with heartbreak or love at least once in your life; it sucks to go through the former but that’s just how life works and Florence perfectly executes these human emotions by way of a mobile game, and it’s absolutely brilliant, heartbreaking, and poignant.

The touching and swelling musical tones in Florence wrapped up with the story-book style of the game make it one to remember. This 45-minute or so game takes you through a relationship through the eyes of Florence, but you get to see the bad parts as well as the good.

It’s a very real story that will tug on your heartstrings and will keep you glued to your phone while you go through the roller coaster ride that is life.

Monument Valley

best mobile games

Monument Valley is an aesthetically pleasing, imaginative, and geometric puzzle game that is filled with optical illusions and challenges that’ll make you scratch your head while at the same time, smiling because of how gorgeous it all is.

This mobile puzzle game is full of absolute charm, and while the total package won’t net you tons of gameplay time, there is a sequel out on mobile as well that will scratch that itch once you finish this one up.

Super Mario Run

Nintendo’s first big mobile title, Super Mario Run, allowed fans of the mustachioed plumber to traverse bite-sized 2D stages by using only one finger to jump.

It sounds simple but the gameplay changes made here really shined a new light on Mario as new elements were added like hopping over Goombas like some kind of parkour expert.

It was super fun and highly enjoyable for what it was. Translating a tight platformer like Mario over to touch-screen enabled devices sounds like a disaster, but Nintendo managed to do it right and showed other developers just how mobile games should be done.

Her Story

Her Story is one of the best detective games out there, period. This title lets the player dive deep into a murder case and gives them access to dozens of video recordings of a live-action interview with a woman who’s under suspicion of killing her husband.

It’s up to the player to piece together testimony, organize the video files by taking notes and solving the mystery. Her Story is truly unique, engaging, cinematic, and will have you staring at your phone for hours.

It has all of the narrative-heavy crime drama that you find in television shows and movies but it’s interactive so it’s even more engrossing than the other types of media.

I’ve yet to finish this extraordinary game myself, just because it kind of scares me when I’m playing alone in the dark while lying in bed, but I can’t wait to get closer and closer to solving the murder and cracking the case.

You can purchase this one for only $3.99 on iOS and $4.99 on Android devices.

Sky: Children of Light

Developed and published by thatgamecompany, Sky: Children of Light is essentially a mobile sequel to the hit indie game, Journey, in everything but the name.

It allows you to explore a world and interact with other players without using any kind of text or speech. It’s a game that doesn’t hold your and truly lets you do what you please. The goal is to heal these spirits that lay around the multitude of areas that you uncover.

It’s a delightful, emotional, calming experience that will make you forget that you’re playing a mobile game due to its sheer beauty and simplistic yet enthralling gameplay and visuals.

It’s not called Journey 2, but if you’re a fan of the indie darling, please go check this one out –oh, and it’s free!

Desert Golfing

best mobile games

No numbers, no high scores, no leaderboards, no music, no complicated golf mechanics; Desert Golf is the most basic and simplistic mobile golf game that you’ll find on the App Store and Google Play Store, but somehow, it’s become one of the most addicting and relaxing games out there.

Some developers will try so hard to push in all types of mechanics and systems into their games to deliver on content but sometimes going the opposite route is the best way to do things.

Desert Golfing literally just has the player using their finger to direct the ball into a hole that’s marked by a flagpole –that’s it. It’s so minimalistic that it’s hard to stop thinking about it even when you’re 100 holes deep.

Pokemon GO

Even though Niantic and The Pokemon Company launched Pokemon GO with barely any features at all, we can’t deny that it shook up the entire world and brought all kinds of people together for what felt like the first time, when it comes to gaming that is.

People were meeting up to catch Pokemon in parks, bars and other hangout spots were using Pokespots as a way of advertisement, and for that summer, it seemed like literally everyone and their mother had the game installed on their phones.

Now that the game has been out for several years, Niantic has really cleaned up the free-to-play game with added features and events that make it indistinguishable from its state at launch back in 2016.

If you were to download this game today for the first time, you will be greeted with hundreds of newly added Pokemon, tons of challenges, and more to keep you occupied for hours on end.
