Oninaki is the third PS4 title from Square Enix’s Tokyo RPG Factory, the makers of I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. While those two titles did everything they could to pay homage to classic RPGs, Oninaki looks like it could be the studio’s first truly unique title.
Oninaki takes place in a world where death has become a nonstarter, since reincarnation is the basis of society. You play as Kagachi, a Watcher who’s duty it is to send the souls of the dead into the next life.
While I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphere used a turn-based system, Oninaki if a full-blown action RPG, with multiple playable characters. On top of basic abilities and equipment, you’ll be able to outfit your character with unique characters known as “Daemons,” who will enhance your skills and open up brand new attacks.
With absolutely gorgeous art design and another seemingly memorable soundtrack, it looks like Oninaki could be Tokyo RPG Factory’s chance to knock it out of the park. If you want to try it out early, there’s even a demo for PS4 up on the PSN.
