Each one of Outer Wilds’ planets has something that makes it feel particularly unique, whether it’s Brittle Hollow’s deteriorating state that crumbles into a black hole, or the watery surface of Giant’s Deep and its various tornadoes. If you’re trying to figure out how to get to the core of Giant’s Deep in Outer Wilds, here’s what you need to know.
Reaching the Core of Giant’s Deep in Outer Wilds
There are two things you’re going to have to get past in order to reach Giant’s Deep’s core in Outer Wilds. The first is a strong current of water that’ll prevent you from descending very far below the surface.
Following that, you’ll then find a layer of electrical charges that’ll zap and damage you and your ship if you simply try and pass through it to the core. Here’s how to get past both of these.
Getting Past the Strong Water Current
First, let’s start with that pesky water current that’s seemingly impenetrable. It seems that way because without a bit of force, neither you or your ship are going to be able to break through it. Fortunately, with the help of the tornadoes on the surface of Giant’s Core, it is possible to get past this.
Specifically, you’re looking for a tornado that is rotating in the opposite direction to the others on the surface. You’ll notice that those rotating in a clockwise direction, when flown into, will push you up and off Giant’s Deep itself.
Therefore, those rotating in a counter-clockwise direction can only do one thing. That’s right, push you down into the core of Giant’s Deep.
As such, you’ll want to identify these. We’ve grabbed a screenshot and circled the kind of tornado you’re going to want to fly into in order to push yourself one step closer to Giant’s Core. Now that we’re past that strong water current, it’s a case of figuring out how to slip past that electrical discharge unharmed.
How to Get Past the Electrical Charges on Giant’s Deep
Updated 07/02/2019: Since the release of a new update, players can no longer simply fly into the jellyfish in their ships. They now need to exit out of their ship and equip their suit once getting past the strong current, and floating up through the tentacles of the jellyfish into its head. After doing this, the jellyfish will slowly descend and pass through the electrical current.
You’re now able to get to Giant’s Deep’s core in Outer Wilds.
Original: Here, you’re going to want to look out for those orange jellyfish that are floating below the strong current of water we’ve just got passed on Giant’s Deep. If you’ve met Feldspar and done some exploring on Dark Bramble, you’ll have discovered that these creatures are only good for one thing: insulating you from electricity.
To get past the electrical charges, seek out one of these jellyfish and fly down below it. Now, use your thrusters to push your ship up with RT. This should move you up through its tentacles and into the top of the jellyfish.
Now, all you need to do is press and hold LT to drop yourself back down. With a bit of luck, the jellyfish will drop enough with you to provide you safe passage.
Now that you’ve made it through the electrical charges on Giant’s Deep, you’ll have made it to the core of the planet. Now it’s simply a case of exploring what there is down there to further unravel the mystery in Outer Wilds.
