free games

We won’t mince words here. This month’s free games offerings are pretty lackluster, so let’s just dive right into it.

For Xbox Gold subscribers, you’ll be able to nab Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, which is part of the popular action series about giant insects invading Earth. It’s not the most graphically impressive game, but it’s at least somewhat entertaining, as long as you’re not grossed out by the creepy crawlies.

Marooners is also available as a free download, which is a collection of fun party games you can play in a local setting. There are various different characters to play as, along with different weapons you can equip in a series of cool party mini-games to play with friends.

  • The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA Tour
  • Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon
  • Comic Jumper

Sony’s free games for PS Plus users are also looking a bit limited, especially since they’ve ceased putting up PS3 and Vita titles on offer, but at least both games are decent enough.

On one hand, you’ve got What Remains of Edith Finch, a beautiful narrative-driven adventure game that has you exploring the past of an eccentric family while figuring out what happened to each member.

On the other, you’ve got Overcooked, which is basically a classic party game at this point. Group up with a few friends and try to work together as you cook food and serve them to customers. It’s a true test of your friendship, and we’re not responsible for any friendship-ending arguments that may ensue.

Twitch Prime

On the Amazon and Twitch Prime side of things, the free games on offer don’t look all that appealing either. As always, we’re mostly getting a bunch of indie games with a decent variety in genres.

Whispering Willows is a horror adventure game where a girl named Elena is trying to look for her father. The game is mostly puzzle-based, with Elena being able to project her spirit out of her body to interact with the environment.

Majesty and Majesty 2 are also on offer this month, and both are RTS games where you’re basically tasked with hiring units and building structures to reinforce your base’s defense against oncoming forces.

Steam

free games

As always, Steam also comes packed with free-to-play games that you can check out at, well, absolutely no cost at all. Here are a few of our favorite picks for this month.

As generic and uninteresting as the title sounds, AVA: Dog Tag is a cooperative military shooter where you must work with your teammates and come up with tactical strategies to take out your opponent, while also being mindful of your own weaknesses. It looks a little rough around the edges but seems to have a decent amount of depth to it if you’re looking for a new co-op shooter to get into.

If you’re an RPG fan, Idle Guardians also caught our eye with its pretty 2D appearance and interesting premise. The game boasts tons of character classes to experiment with, along with over 1,000 quests to attempt. What’s intriguing is that battles are automatic and non-stop, and most of the strategy comes from you being able to set up an optimal team before the fight even begins.
