3. Scorpion

Beginners

Scorpion, the face of the Mortal Kombat series, is an easy recommendation for players who are just starting in Mortal Kombat 11. His toolkit is extraordinarily straightforward, and his combos are easy to string together.

Scorpion’s spear is an easy way to counter an opponent who is trying to keep you at a distance, and when it’s amplified, it can be quickly followed up with a three hit combo. His teleport move is also a great way to get a jump on the enemy and follow up a combo if you land a hit.

The biggest thing to keep in mind with Scorpion is that his moves are easily punishable if he misses, so always play it a little safe and never be afraid to block. Once you land a few hits, be sure to keep the pressure on your opponent, but if you lose momentum back up and wait for your opening.

Scorpion’s teleport and spear moves are just a few of the moves he can actually use when looking into custom variants. He also has a fire breath attack and a slide that grabs and throws your opponent. These are found under his second preset variant and are great to play around with after you’ve learned his basic moveset.

2. Sub-Zero

Beginners

Sub-Zero is another great character for beginners. If Liu Kang is not your style, maybe you’ll enjoy the cool stylings of this ice ninja. Sub-Zero offers a mix of easy to use special moves and simple combos to make you feel like a bad-ass ninja.

The ice ball special move is great to keep your opponents at bay and give you a second to follow up with a combo. It also helps punish an adversary who is jumping around because it can hit while in the air.

Sub-Zero also has a slide move that can be amplified to do increased damage and close the distance between both of you. This is a great way to get in close for a combo or directly after freezing your opponent with an ice ball.

He also has an overhead smash attack that will allow him to break an opponent’s block and put pressure on them. These are just a few simple things that make Sub-Zero great for a beginner player.

1. Liu Kang

Beginners

Liu Kang has been one of the cornerstones in the Mortal Kombat franchise since the beginning. He is an excellent choice for beginners and advanced players alike. Liu Kang is a character all about movement, and his toolkit allows for both ranged and close up attacks.

Liu Kang’s fireball move is a great way to keep your opponent at bay while also amplifying it to add two extra fireballs to deal significant chip damage. This is best used at mid to far range as the startup for this move requires some time.

Another great move in Liu Kang’s arsenal is his bicycle kick. This lets you get up close and personal for some quick damage, which you can also amplify twice to keep the hits going and back your opponent into a corner as it pushes them across the map.

This is excellent for when you need to put your opponent’s back against the wall. Liu Kang’s standard combos are mostly just three and four hit combos which are incredibly easy to learn. One of them is even just hitting the X/A/B button four times, which is a reliable way to deal damage to your opponent.

This makes Liu Kang an extremely easy and fun character for beginners to get into, but he also has a ton of depth for higher skilled players to master when it comes to chaining together interesting and powerful moves.
