How to Upgrade Healing Gourd in Sekiro

As you’d expect from a new action game developed by FromSoftware, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is pretty challenging, getting more so as you progress. Thankfully, though, there are ways to heal. Here’s everything you need to know about how to upgrade the Healing Gourd in Sekiro.

What the Healing Gourd Does & How to Use It

The item is the main way of healing in FromSoftware’s game and you’ll probably need to use it a lot. It has a few charges that allow you to restore some health while you’re out and about in the world.

To use it in Sekiro, press left or right on the d-pad to select your it from your inventory, then press up on the d-pad to use it and restore some of your health. The Healing Gourd charges can then be restored when resting at a Sculptor’s Idol.

How to Upgrade It in Sekiro

Thankfully, you can upgrade it as you progress, allowing you more charges to use when coming up against the bigger and badder bosses later in the game.

You can increase the number of times you can use your Healing Gourd in Sekiro by giving Gourd Seeds to Lady Emma at the Dilapidated Temple.

The best way of getting Gourd Seeds in the game is not clear just yet, but we found one after killing the first mini-boss in the game, who’s located right after the Outskirts Wall – Gate Path Sculptor’s Idol.

From our experience in the game, it looks like Gourd Seeds can also be purchased from the Memorial Mob vendors, two of which are located at the Abandoned Dungeon Entrance and up the stairs right next to Ashina Castle Gate, where you fought Gyobu.

Defeating the Chained Ogre will also reward you with a Shinobi Medicine latent skill, which increases the potency of the Healing Gourd. When you unlock the Shinobi skill tree, you’ll also be able to get further upgrades for the Shinobi Medicine skill.

It seems like killing powerful enemies throughout the game will allow you to upgrade your Healing Gourd, spreading it out throughout the length of the story.

That’s everything you need to know about how to upgrade the Healing Gourd in Sekiro. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our Sekiro wiki guide or search for Twinfinite.
