Here’s what you need to know regarding whether or not Red Dead Online has a story.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is already a massive game with tens of hours of story and side content for players to wade through. That massive experience is made even larger, however, by Red Dead Online, the new multiplayer experience added into the game in November.

Players can team up and form a posse or explore the new mode entirely on their own. There’s a wealth of modes and game types to pick from, but most players are probably wondering if Red Dead Online has some kind of story. Luckily, the answer to that is yes, there is some form of story in Red Dead Online.

We’re currently unsure of how long the story missions are in Red Dead Online, due to the beta recently releasing. Of course, it’s also possible that Rockstar will continue to expand on the online portion’s story with future updates and additions. We’ll make sure to update this article if we find out the exact amount of story missions.

When you start up Red Dead Online you’ll create your own character and start from Sisika Penitentiary. At that point, it’s up to you what you want to do. There are a series of co-operative story-based missions that you can play through, either with friends or strangers. Another option is to find free roam missions that let you help Strangers, similar to the main game.

Some familiar faces will pop up in these missions, and Red Dead Online even has a complex honor system that ties into everything. The choices you make and your Honor in the mode can alter the kind of missions you’re able to take on, or how certain things play out. For example, an honorable player might be asked to defend a stagecoach from invading posses or other players, while a dishonorable player might be asked to rob it.

That’s everything you need to know about if there’s a story in Red Dead Online.
