How to Upgrade Perk Cards in Fallout 76

Perks have been given a bit of an overhaul in Fallout 76, now taking the form of perk cards. They’re still tied into the SPECIAL stats, but this time you’ll be able to equip perk cards, unequip them, and upgrade perk cards in order to get improved versions. Here’s how to upgrade perk cards in Fallout 76 to give yourself the best loadout for taking on the West Virginia wasteland.

How to Upgrade Perk Cards

Perk cards in Fallout 76 are much the same as what we’ve seen before, just in a more accessible and clear format. To upgrade perk cards, you’ll first need two of the same card. As you can see in the screenshot above, for example, two Concentrated Fire perk cards from the Perception stat can be used to create a level two card.

In order to actually do this yourself, you’ll first need to open up your Pip-Boy in Fallout 76 by pressing B on Xbox One or Circle on PS4. Once you’re within the menus, press Y or Triangle, and you’ll access the perks menu.

Now all you need to do is select one of your two duplicate cards and press either X on Xbox One, or Square on PS4 in order to rank up the cards. It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that in order to use your newly ranked-up card, you’ll need the number of perk points in the top left corner of the card available within the stat.

Why You Should Upgrade Perk Cards in Fallout 76

If you upgrade perk cards in Fallout 76, you’re going to net yourself more powerful versions of the same perk. In the example of Concentrated fire, with a level 1 card, you’re simply able to target limbs within VATS and focus fire to gain accuracy and damage per shot. With the level 2 card, it buffs the effect of that last part, so you can gain more accuracy and damage per shot than you would with the standard level 1 version.

This does leave you with a little bit of a decision to make, however. You can either opt to upgrade perk cards and have a few, really powerful perks equipped, or you can have more, less powerful perk cards equipped to help cover more bases.

It’s always worth remembering, though, that you can unequip perk cards whenever you like in Fallout 76 and switch them out for others. Though, they will always remain in your perk card deck.
