How to Start a Duel in Red Dead Redemption

Recommended Videos

Red Dead Redemption is all about simulating that good ol’ wild west. You’re a cowboy, baby, and it’s time for you to act like one. At many points during the game, you’ll have the opportunity to duel and show off your gunslinger abilities. Here’s how to start a duel in Red Dead Redemption.

You can start duels in the game in quite a bit of different ways. If you’re playing Poker, wear the Elegant Suit and get caught cheating. You can also simply meander about with your gun drawn and point it at people (sometimes it will trigger a duel).

Sometimes, someone will just straight up ask you to duel (be on the lookout for a blue circle on the mini map in your vicinity, those random encounters are sometimes duels). And, finally, after you’ve gained a lot of fame, you’ll get more and more calls for a shooting match as people want to challenge the best.

To win the duel, you simply need to shoot up your opponent in the game! Once “Draw” is presented, you need to hold L2 and start aimin’ and shootin’. It’s not a “one and done deal.” No, instead, you’ll be filling them with holes. Pull the trigger all over, while the crosshairs are white (not red! this fills up the opponent’s meter), and you’ll fill up the blue bar on the right-hand side. Fill it up more than the opposing red bar and you’ll win the duel when the time is up. Fail to do so and the enemy will get the jump on you, instead.

That’s all there is to starting a duel in Red Dead Redemption for the PS3, Xbox 360, and backwards compatible PS4 and Xbox One! If you need any more help, leave the question in the comments down below. We’ll do our best to answer your question on the game.
