In Mario Tennis Aces, all local games are played in splitscreen multiplayer style. It would be kind of hard to play otherwise as one person would always be far off in the distance and it would be much more difficult for that person to control their character having to play all mirrored and stuff.

To play splitscreen multiplayer in Mario Tennis Aces, go to the Free Play option in the main menu. In there, you can set up a game with up to four people all using splitscreen multiplayer (obviously anymore than two people would be doubles).

Select single-console play and use the directional pad to put the number of players you’re playing with. Once done with that, you’ll be asked to set up your Joy-Cons. If you’re playing with more than two people on a local console, you’ll need to split up the Joy-Cons horizontally. Luckily the game works just fine like that. Then, you can change the rules by pressing +/- and set up either singles or doubles. You can also set other rules such as whether you’re playing with sets or tie-breakers.

Splitscreen co-op works in Swing Mode too, just do the same thing as above, but select Swing Mode in the main menu instead. In Swing Mode you’ll be using the motion controls.

That does it for how to play splitscreen multiplayer in Mario Tennis Aces. Best of luck out on the courts! If you’re looking for more tips and tricks on Mario Tennis Aces, be sure to check out our wiki.
