Emperor Zurg
UPDATE:Â After publishing it was later confirmed that the Toy Story sections of KH3 would take place after the events of Toy Story 2. This doesn’t completely rule out some of these villains, but certainly lessens their chances.
Emperor Zurg is the very definition of a villain, at least at first. This arch nemesis of Buzz Lightyear certainly looks imposing, as his mission is to thwart Star Command at every instance. Zurg’s villainy would make him easily swayed by the likes of Xehanort and the Heartless. You can just imagine the perfect boss battle with Zurg, atop the elevator like in Toy Story 2 as different obstacles whiz past you going up and down the shaft.
Of course, Zurg would have his own personal army of toy-based Heartless to contend with while he blasts away at you with his gun as well. He seems like the most likely choice for a villain from the Toy Story world, and would serve as an interesting force to contend with throughout your time in Kingdom Hearts III.
Stinky Pete the Prospector
While Zurg has the look and style of a villain down, Prospector Pete definitely knows what it means to be one. Pete has an obsession with being mint in the box, and puts toy value far above the joy of being played with by a child. Through years of lowering value and being stuck on a dime store shelf, Pete grew resentful of Woody, who instead became a collector’s item. These warped perceptions are exactly what would lead the Darkness into Pete’s heart, and open him up to the Heartless. Just think of how he’d feel when he sees three new toys show up with Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
You could easily picture a pretty impressive boss battle with a Darkness-infused version of Pete, similarly to how we’ve seen other Disney villains in Kingdom Heart games. Maybe it could take place in a western town you visit at Galaxy Toys or another location, Â perfectly fitting the Toy Story theme. What if it plays out in phases, with one phase atop a toy train?Thinking about the boss battle potential in a the Kingdom Hearts III Toy Story world is certainly exciting.
Scud
Scud may not be totally antagonistic towards the party, but we already know he just can’t help attacking something small that moves. Sid’s dog serves as one of the main threats in the first Toy Story movie, and to a toy he’s certainly a dangerous creature. It looks like the humans have all but disappeared in the Toy Story world of Kingdom Hearts III, but there’s no reason for Scud to be gone.
As you make your way out of Andy’s house and down the street it’s more than likely you could run into Scud patrolling the neighborhood. This could easily be a different kind of boss you’ll just have to run from or avoid in some way, as he chases you down the street. Considering the sheer size difference, Scud could be something similar to the Ground Shaker boss from Kingdom Hearts II, requiring you to get up on his back. It’d certainly add some interesting variety to the Toy-filled world.
Lotso
Lotso seems like a friendly huggable bear, however, he’s anything but. This character used to love his owner, but ended up lost only to find his owner had gotten another Lotso bear. This bred bad feelings in Lotso, eventually leading to evil and him taking over Sunnyside Daycare and rigging the whole system.
Just like Prospector Pete, this makes him a perfect candidate for the darkness to invade. The downright evil nature of Lotso could make him an incredibly imposing villain for Kingdom Hearts, especially if he gets a Heartless army to command. We don’t know exactly where the Toy Story would will go, but things could get dark if you can fight a Lotso battle in the incinerator he tries to kill the toys with in Toy Story 3. It’d be a stark contrast to the bright and cheery locales of the rest of the world, but could make for a fascinating twist. In terms of Disney villains, you certainly couldn’t go wrong with this bear.
Brainwashed Buzz Lightyear
The Toy Story films showed us that there are plenty of Buzz Lightyears out there, and they’re all easily impressionable. Right out of the box these toy’s are filled with misguided notions of exploring alien planets and seeing out their mission given by Star Command, of course not really realizing they’re actually toys. This impressionability is exactly what makes Buzz Lightyear figures easy pawns for Xehanort and the darkness.
The trailer for the Toy Story world showed us we’d be visiting a store called Galaxy Toys, and there’s sure to be more than one Buzz Lightyear figure there. When Sora and party travel down the Buzz aisle, they could easily be set upon by a horde of figures trying to protect Star Command. In this case it wouldn’t be enough to face one brainwashed Buzz, but you’d want to face a whole army of them. A battle like this could even set up some fun gags for Kingdom Hearts III, just like in the Toy Story films.
