As the year of the Monkey comes to a close, the Year of the Rooster eagerly awaits for sunrise to crow. Known to release content for major events and holidays, Riot is celebrating by allowing you to give them money for three new legacy skins. Falling under the “Warring Kingdoms” line and with gorgeous splash art, players can purchase new skins for Garen, Vi, and Azir individually for 1350 RP each or as a bundle 4801 Riot Points (6458 if you don’t own the champions). The bundle also included three Lunar New Year icons and a special Lunar Revel Rooster Ward. These are legacy skins and will be removed from the store after the event.
Players can also head over to the League of Legends Lunar Revel 2017 page here for a free icon, named “Mark of the Fortune,” to be used in-game. The Lunar Revel event ends on Feb. 2 so grab your skins while you can!
Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius
The team over at Square Enix is celebrating the Lunar New Year and their mobile game in a big way. A community event in the dimensional vortex introduces two new dungeons, Nian Beast Attack and Great Nian Beast Attack. Killing these beasts on various difficulties can drop rare weapons like the Beast Cestus, a fist weapon granting 51 ATK and 10 SPR.
Participation in the dungeons will further reward players with a variety of items. If the player base manages to kill 300,000 Nian Beast bosses, 10 arena summoning tickets will be rewarded while 60 energy is given for 750,000 kills. Finally, a summon ticket is given for an undisclosed amount of kills, so keep farming!
As a bonus Lunar New Year celebration, Brave Exvius players will get one free summon a day, resetting at 0:00 PT. By spending 500 lapis (paid currency), you also have the chance to earn Special Lunar New Year units: Yun (Chocobo Rider), Ling (Dancer), and Xiao (Monk). The events come to a close on Feb. 2 while the Lunar New Year units are available until the 9th.
Overwatch
Blizzard has always given a pretty lengthy event time for Overwatch’s seasonal events, and thank goodness for that because the Year of the Rooster event features over 100 new cosmetic items to be earned. Until Feb. 13, players can earn:
- 46 hero-exclusive sprays (plus 6 general sprays)
- 23 voice packs
- 7 victory poses
- 23 player icons
- 13 skins
- 3 highlight introductions
- 3 emotes
Mei drew a bit of negative attention late last year with her legendary-tier Christmas skin being criticized as bland. The Year of the Rooster event brings her two additional legendary skins, Chang’e (the Chinese goddess of the Moon) and Luna. The greatest additions, however, are probably the Journey to the West themed skins for Winston (Wukong), Zenyatta (Sanzang), Reinhardt (Wujing), and Roadhog (Bajie). Journey to the West is a classic Chinese novel, telling the story of Sanzang and his three disciples. Of those disciples, the rebellious monkey Sun Wukong is the most beloved and has been a direct inspiration for characters like Dragonball’s Goku, who carried the staff and nimbus cloud associated with Sun Wukong. Both League of Legends and SMITE also contain characters that are directly named Wukong, and uses his signature staff as a weapon.
Skins and other loot have a chance to be dropped through loot boxes upon level ups or for every three wins in the arcade (three boxes total per week). At least one Lunar New Year item is guaranteed to be included per box. Players will also get a free lootbox upon their first login since the event update.
Heroes of the Storm
Another Blizzard title, Heroes of the Storm is celebrating with its own Lunar Festival event, The Rooster Race challenges. Upon starting the match, the rooster will request a specific item. The two teams must then seek out the item and return it to the rooster, whereupon he will request a new item. The first team to bring back four requested items wins the Rooster Race. A daily quest will reward 200 gold for every first win. Dedicated players that finish the Rooster Race 25 times will be treated to a Lunar Rooster Portrait and a Lunar Rooster Mount.
Within the in-game store, a bundle containing the Monkey King Samuro, Lunar Li Ming, and Nimbus Cloud mount can be purchased as a bundle. The Samuro skin is purchasable individually, but Lunar Li Ming won’t be available until Feb. 7.
World of Tanks Blitz
The Lunar New Year game celebrations wind to a less-exciting close with World of Tanks Blitz, The handheld spinoff of World of Tanks. The New Moon event will set a series of tasks filled with rewards. Stage 1 to 3 will all be the same, before splitting off into two separate paths at stage 4. At the end of each path is a premium tank emblazoned with a dragon camouflage. The Tier VII Blaze WZ is red, featuring the fire dragon while a Tier VIII Glacial 112 features the ice dragon. This event ends on Feb. 11, and you can check out full stats for the tanks below:
