Connor’s true name is Ratonhnhaké:ton, and he’s a member of the Mohawk Tribe from the village of Kanatahséton. In his early childhood, Connor’s village was burned to the ground and he was forced to fend for himself, eventually ending up with the Master Assassin Achilles Davenport.

It turns out though that Connor’s past is more important than he knew, as he was born to a Mohawk mother and Haytham Kenway, a notoriously important Templar. Despite this, Connor’s tribal heritage is most important to him, and he’ll do anything to protect his people.

Connor also gains access to some unique abilities through his heritage and rituals. There’s a few sequences during Assassin’s Creed III where Connor inhabits the body of an eagle, learning key story points in the process. The Tyranny of King Washington DLC also puts him in an alternate timeline where George Washington rules over America with an iron fist. In the DLC, Connor gains access to unique animal powers that make him incredibly deadly. He gains the power of a bear, eagle, and wolf, and can use them to battle his enemies.

He’s Absolutely Brutal In Combat, and a Talented Ship Captain

Connor is easily one of the most effective assassins in the entire series, with his mix of stealth based tactics and open combat. He honed his skills growing up in the wilderness of early America, and can easily take down a group of 10 or 20 Red Coats all by himself.

Connor was the first Assassin to use two weapons at once, that weren’t wristblades, as he wield a knife and tomahawk. The tomahawk in particular really separates Connor from the rest, and he’s deadly effective with it using the weapon to cut down enemies. New weapons like the rope dart and bow and arrow make him deadly from distances and heights too.

To top it off, Connor is also a skilled naval captain. During Assassin’s Creed III you take part in some major naval battles of the American Revolution, like the Battle of Chesapeake. With the help of his crew, Connor manages to pilot his ship to safety and take down fleets of enemies in the process. He’s easily one of the most deadly Assassins of the entire series.

He Had a Role in the Founding of America

Connor may not have known how important his role was, but he became a key figure in the American Revolution, and by extension the founding of the United States of America. This was of course a key event that changed the course of the very world.  Connor seeks training from the Master Assassin Achilles Davenport, after his mother is killed and village burned by forces he believes to be the Templars.

His quest is one of revenge but in the process he meets many key figures of the time like Benjamin Franklin and William Johnson. He also bears witness to events like the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Of course one of the Assassin’s most important associates was none other than George Washington, the first president of the U.S. During his quest to hunt the Templars, Connor ends up helping the Patriot movement, and even saving Washington’s life. He eventually finds out it was Washington’s forces that burned his village, but continues using the Patriots to his advantage. You can in part say that in the Assassin’s Creed Universe there would be no America without Connor.

He Loses Everything But Keeps Going

Assassin's Creed III

Assassin’s Creed III takes place across a large chunk of Connor’s life, and he pretty much loses everything that’s important to him. The game starts with his village being burned down by Washington’s forces and his mother being killed. Connor eventually loses his mentor Achilles as well, the man who trained him into the assassin he is.

Also Connor is forced to kill his own father, Haytham Kenway, who’s a key member of the Templars. Then, later on he also finds out the truth about Washington’s forces burning his village, which is a shocking revelation as he’d been helping the Patriot forces for much of the game.

Despite all of this turmoil, Connor somehow finds a way to keep going. His conviction in his beliefs and determination to see justice prevail keeps this assassin moving forward at all times, even when he’s lost it all.
