Microsoft goes hard in the televised paint.
With the PS4 Pro launching on November 10, Microsoft spent a lot on television advertising in October. The Xbox One S having outsold the PS4 in recent months, Microsoft surely hopes to convince holiday shoppers to purchase their latest console in their fight to catch up to Sony in overall console sales.
As reported by GamesBeat, Xbox more than doubled PlayStation’s spending on televised advertising. Xbox spent an estimated $39.9 million on 16 commercials that ran 4,118 times, versus PlayStation’s estimated $12.1 million on 11 commercials that ran 1,612 times. This netted Xbox 1.2 billion ad impressions to Sony’s 428.6 million.
Unsurprisingly, commercials were aired mostly during sports and South Park.
According to the statistics, Xbox’s primary advertisement was for the launch of Gears of War 4, whereas PlayStation’s was for the Star Wars: Battlefront Rogue One – X-Wing VR Mission.
