This Fallout 4 Automatron Robot Farms You Ammo, Materials and More

Time to scavenge the entire world.

Fallout 4’s first expansion, Automatron, adds some very useful features to the game. Robot building, new armor, new enemies, and new weapons offer all new reasons to jump back into the Boston Wasteland. The most useful addition, though, comes after you complete the expansion’s final mission, “Restoring Order.”

After the final boss, you will gain access to a new workshop initially called the facility, and later called The Mechanist’s Lair. Upstairs and behind the room where you shut down security during the mission, you’ll find a hallway. Take a right to find the Mechanist’s room and pick up the blueprint for something called an Eyebot Pod. There is no explanation as to what it does when you pick it up, but you’ll probably want to build one (or 10) immediately, as the Eyebot Pod can be used to find you specific materials, ammo, and explosives.

Opening the Workshop Menu at one of your Settlements, you can select the Special tab to find the Eyebot Pod. To build it you’ll need:

  • 2 Copper
  • 4 Circuitry
  • 6 Aluminum
  • 2 Fiber Optics
  • 2 Nuclear Material
  • After building you need to connect it to energy. Requires 6 Energy.

Once built, the Eyebot Pod can be sent out to search for specific items, listed below:

  • Adhesive
  • Aluminum
  • Antiseptic
  • Ballistic Fiber
  • Ceramic
  • Copper
  • Crystal
  • Fertilizer
  • Fiberglass
  • Fiber Optics
  • Nuclear Material
  • Oil
  • Screws

  • .308
  • .44
  • .45
  • .50
  • .556
  • 2mm EC
  • 5 mm
  • Cannonball
  • Flamer Fuel
  • Fusion Core
  • Gamma Round
  • Mini Nuke
  • Missile
  • Railroad Spike
  • Shotgun shell

  • Baseball Grenade
  • Cryogenic Grenade
  • Fragmentation Grenade
  • Nuka Grenade
  • Plasma Grenade
  • Pulse Grenade
  • Bottlecap Mine
  • Cryo Mine
  • Fragmentation Mine
  • Nuke Mine
  • Plasma Mine
  • Pulse Mine

Select which item you’d like, and the Eyebot will leave your settlement in search. You can then wait around or simply head to a bed and sleep (4 hours seems to always do the trick), and you’ll be given a Miscellaneous Quest to retrieve the item. The location will pinpoint a container that can be looted for your requested item (a chest, a desk, a garbage can, etc.). All you have to do is get there and collect the items.

So far, after several tries with different request, each location was quite fruitful, even for rarer materials and ammo. After requesting Gamma Rounds, I was lead to a chest with 36 Rounds, and when searching for Fusion Cores I received three in one shot. It seems the new feature creates these items in the world for you, as I myself found ammo in an area I had already cleared.

You can build multiple Eyebot Pods in order to farm for many items at once. So as long as you have the materials, go nuts.
