Wargaming, the developer and publisher behind the popular MMO war sim World of Tanks, has officially opened a new UK studio this week. A celebration brought together community members and developers in an event attended by the company CEO Victor Kislyi.
The new Guildford-based studio is currently staffed by a veteran team of 60 or so developers who are working on a brand-new IP. They’re set to expand even further, too, with Studio Head Sean Decker looking to double in number over the next year. Decker said of today’s news:
“We are in a unique position – we have the backing of a global company, AND we have autonomy over our own creative direction – it’s really exciting. We are proud to be a part of Wargaming’s enduring legacy, as well as its reputation as a great company to work for.
We want to continue building this quality across our UK team, with 30 positions currently open for application. We really believe that we can be the best place to make games in the UK.”
Wargaming UK represents an evolution of Wargaming’s network, which extends to over 4500 employees across 18 network locations. Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi said of the launch:
“For Wargaming, the UK studio is a really exciting step in our expansion – and we are looking forward to releasing information on their new project. It is going to be big. It was a pleasure to celebrate with the team, and we are looking forward to watching them create something special.”
Wargaming’s portfolio of games also includes World of Warships, which recently announced plans to support full cross-platform play.
