Despite the Rumors, Konami Did Not Release a Game-Locking Patch for P.T.

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

For some reason, people began reporting that a new update for P.T. was released a few days ago (on Oct. 31, appropriately) that prevented the game from being played. The rumor made the rounds on social media to the point where it was believed that this was actually happening to some people.

I personally turned on my PS4 to check if this was the case, but I could still start the game up perfectly fine.

Wouldn’t you know, it turns out that it was all an elaborate hoax. DualShockers reached out to Konami for its statement on the matter, to which the company responded, “after our investigation we can confirm that there have been no Konami or PlayStation Network (PSN) update that would have affected or prevent access to the game.”

So, there you go. As long as you still have P.T. installed on your PS4, it can still be played with no problems.

P.T. was a free playable teaser for the then upcoming Silent Hills game. After the game was canceled and the game’s director, Hideo Kojima, left Konami, P.T. was removed from the PlayStation Store.

However, unlike most games removed from digital storefronts, P.T. can not be redownloaded if you delete it off of your PS4. The only way to access this short horror game is via a PS4 that still has the game installed.
