Today Kojima Productions’ big boss Hideo Kojima put the speculation about a possible acquisition by Sony to rest.

Said speculation was sparked by the appearance of a PlayStation Studios banner that included Kojima Productions’ IP Death Stranding, which of curse ignited the usual rumor mill.

Things came to a head when Hideo Kojima himself tweeted the banner about an hour ago, sending the Twitterverse into overdrive.

The developer then followed up by mentioning that his previous tweet may have possibly misled some, and pledging that Kojima Production has been and will continue to be an independent development studio, as seen below.

You may ask yourself why Death Stranding appears in PlayStation Studios’ banner, and the solution is pretty simple. PlayStation Studios published the game, pretty much like Microsoft Flight Simulator is published by Xbox, but it’s developed by the independent Asobo Studios.

If you’d like to read more about Death Stranding (which is now available for PC, PS4, and PS5) and take a look at its evolution, you can check out our original review and then the newer one about the recently-launched Director’s Cut.

If you’re unfamiliar with Hideo Kojima, he’s mostly known for the Metal Gear Solid franchise. After leaving Konami in 2015, he formed Kojima Productions as an independent studio
