Today Sega had a couple of announcements to make about its upcoming JRPG Ryu Ga Gotoku 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness, known in the west as Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
First of all, the game has gone gold ahead of its upcoming release, as announced during an event hosted by Sega at the Yebisu Garden Place in Tokyo.
Secondly, Sega is collaborating with several real-life corporations to include some of their popular products in the game.
Below you can find a list:
- Scalp D (shampoo) by Angfa
- Nikuman (meat bun), Castella (sponge cake) and Yokan (red bean jelly) by Imuraya
- Kao Attack Zero (detergent) by Kao
- Asadaame candy can by Asadaame
- Nozaki’s Corned Beef by Kawasho Foods
- Cemedine Super X (super glue) by Cemedine
- Oragamachi Natto by Naito Food Industries
- Pine (pineapple candy) by Pine Corporation.
You can also check out a few images below.
These products will be represented in the game with a gameplay function that represents it, like hit points restoration. Some will be weapon crafting materials.
If you’re familiar with the Yakuza series, you’re probably familiar with the fact that over the years Sega has made of product placement a feature, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon appears to be bringing this to the next level.
Incidentally, some of these products appear in the demo that has just been released.
If you’d like to see more about the game, you can check out the latest trailer that revealed iconic hero Kazuma Kiryu, a batch of screenshots introducing the men of the Seiryukai, and more showing the Omi Union crew.
We also have plenty of gameplay from a few days ago and the previous screenshot reveal, which, combined another, shows how the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio appears to be taking a page from Persona’s book.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon will launch in Japan on January 16, 2020, exclusively for PS4. It’ll also come west later next year.
Just yesterday, Microsoft and Sega announced that some Yakuza games are coming to Xbox One, but for now Yakuza: Like a Dragon remains PS4 exclusive.
