There are times in which Japanese developers announce weird news, and then there are times in which they announce really weird news. This one about Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV belongs to the second category.
Today Koei Tecmo announced a collaboration between its historical warfare strategy game simulation Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV and… The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These anime.
Of course, the weirdness is in the disparity between the two intellectual properties. Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is set in ancient china, at the game of warfare between the titular Three KIngdoms.
The Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a science fiction war story, and one of the best anime properties ever created.
The original anime series comes with a whopping 110 episodes, and it sparked tons of additional OVA and the new Die Neue These TV sries, which in turn gave birth to the three Seiran theatrical movies.
It’s a massive space opera that no self-respecting sci-fi fan should die without watching.
Adding to the mystery behind the announcement, no real details were provided besides the fact that the collaboration involves the writer of The Legend of the Galactic Heroes Yoshiki Tanaka.
My theory is that he might have been drafted to write part of the story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV, but without explanations, your guess is as good as mine.
Romance of The Three Kingdoms XIV will be released in Japan before the end of the year. The game will also come in North America and Europe in early 2020.
The platforms for all regions will be PS4 and PC.
