After the news broke once again that Sony won’t be appearing at E3, Phil Spencer took to Twitter to announce that Microsoft would once again attend E3 and the team is “hard at work” preparing for the conference.
Xbox wouldn’t necessarily lose anything to skip E3 as they have built up their answer to Sony’s State of Play with the Inside Xbox streams. Even though more developers and publishers bring their games to E3, Microsoft’s presser was, for the third time in a row, the most-watched stream of the whole show.
Even so, further commitment builds better hype, as E3 is a known entity and the show itself comes along with plenty of buzz.
While the continued attendance can be seen as Xbox doing what Sony isn’t for the sake of competition, bigger moments that happen at E3 stick around longer, and Keanu Reeves’ appearance during Xbox’s conference in 2019 was one of the most defining moments of the whole show.
When it comes to managing hype, appearing at the biggest convention of the year keeps Microsoft at the forefront, especially with new consoles coming just around the corner.
