The remake of Naughty Dog’s classic cart racer released today and has already garnered a very positive critical reception, with most deeming it a fantastic return to the series, but it didn’t take long before players were reporting issues with the online mode.

Many fans have taken to social media to air their complaints. On Twitter you’ll find issues of teleporting racers and “ridiculous” loading times, with many simply calling the online play “broken“. On the Crash Team Racing subreddit you’ll find similar complaints, as well as those of character models not syncing up with the mini map and characters “winning” by default because every other character has suddenly disappeared.

Beenox has been quick to respond. Their tweet notes that they’re already working on a fix and that they’ll continue to keep players updated on the issue.

The online problems are an unfortunate speed bump in Crash’s otherwise triumphant return to the race track. 20 years on from the release of the original, this remaster has been praised extensively for giving fans more of the same fun game they played growing up, while maintaining that same off-kilter personality the racer was known for(which comes as no surprise if you’ve seen their trailers).

While many players have for the moment relegated themselves to enjoying the game’s singleplayer, we can hope that Beenox’s solution comes sooner rather than later.
