When you’re the princess and heir to a powerful dynasty, men from all over the world line up to ask for your hand in marriage, and Rhaenyra Targaryen has quite the line of suitors to consider. Episode 4 of House of the Dragon features a rather bored Princess Rhaenyra denying suitors left and right. It isn’t just old, wrinkly men, but apparently a boy as well, from House Blackwood. Is that house important? Who are the Blackwoods in House of the Dragon?
Who Are the Blackwoods in House of the Dragon?
House Blackwood is a very old house in Westeros stationed in the riverlands and are big supporters of the Targaryens throughout Westeros’ history. House Blackwood was a significant force during the War of the Conquest, pledging their allegiance to Aegon the Conqueror.
As episode 4 unfolds, we see a very young member of House Blackwood—Willem Blackwood—pitching a marriage to Rhaenyra. Willem Blackwood is an entirely new character in House of the Dragon, though it appears his character borrows heavily from Samwell Blackwood.
Should that be the case, Willem Blackwood will be a major supporter to Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons. The next time we see him, he may very well be a young man ready to defend House Targaryen, so keep your eyes on Willem Blackwood.
Now you should have a better understanding of who the Blackwoods are in House of the Dragon. For more on House of the Dragon, find out what House of the Owl means; afterwards, decide if you agree that Rhaenyra wishes to marry Daemon Targaryen.
