Is Sea of Thieves Xbox One X Enhanced?
Rare’s upcoming Sea of Thieves releases exclusively for Xbox One and PC soon, and the developer has also stated the pirate adventure game will be enhanced for Microsoft’s latest console, Xbox One X. In a quick video, two members of Rare’s engineering team discuss what we can expect from Sea of Thieves on the Xbox One X.
Sea of Thieves has been optimized for the Xbox One X and will run at native 4K resolution. The Rare engineers highlighted the native 4K rresolution, saying that every single pixel on the screen is being generated by the One X. There’s no need for direct scaling of resolution or checkerboarding, an upscaling method utilized in other 4K titles.
Other noticeable changes players will notice on the One X are hi-res textures and hi-res shadows. According to the engineers, the Xbox One X enhancements should be on par with ultra-spec PC settings. For those who don’t have a 4K display, Sea of Thieves will still be rendering at 4K to deliver an improved image quality.
Rare is ready to push the Xbox One X to its full capabilities. In an interview with Wccftech, Rare’s Joe Neate explained:
We were always well-prepared for the Xbox One X version. We had already done a lot of work in terms of 4K assets and HDR lighting because of our work on the PC version, so it was pretty smooth to just get it up and running. Now we’ve pushed it pretty far, with the game running in native 4K, supporting HDR, with high-resolution textures and shadows, and support for Dolby Atmos.
Below are some of the specs and features players can also expect to see when the game releases:
- 4K Ultra HD
- HDR Support
- Xbox One X Enhanced
- Xbox Play Anywhere
