The fight against Nightmare is actually a two-parter, and in the first phase, he is known as Dreamer. We will go over strategies for both below.

How to Beat Nightmare in Remnant From the Ashes

The battle with Dreamer/Nightmare takes place in Ward 17, which can be accessed from Ward 13 after obtaining a key from the Founder.

In the first phase, Dreamer hovers above you and will launch a bunch of projectiles at you. Long-range weapons are ideal here, like the Hunting Rifle or Sniper Rifle.

He also has a ground slam attack, and adds will join the fray so be sure to take care of them before focusing your fire on the boss.

Once you do enough damage, his helmet will crack and he will take on his true form, that of Nightmare.

Nightmare will launch fireballs at regular intervals, but they aren’t too hard to dodge. Keep moving and firing.

He will also use an attack where a player will be targeted by a symbol and followed up with an instant telepathic attack. It can be avoided by dodging at the right moment, but it can be tough to time right.

Eventually, Nightmare will trigger a phase in which your visibility is lowered, and you need to find and stand on a portal to return to the actual boss fight.

While you are in this creepy other world, basic Root and eventually mini bosses will spawn and attack you, and just by being there you will take a constant amount of damage.

For each Root you kill here, you will be awarded a stacking buff that will allow you to inflict progressively more damage on Nightmare. Try and stack at least ten, but the more you can stack, the quicker the battle will go.

Continue to pile the damage on Nightmare. He has an enormous health pool, but with a little patience and a lot of bullets, you will eventually bring him down.

Congratulations, you just beat Remnant From the Ashes.

To recap,

  1. Bring a long-range weapon

This is crucial. The Hunting Rifle or Sniper Rifle is ideal, but the Assault Rifle will work as well.

  2. Defeat Dreamer

Focus fire on his helmet, and avoid his projectile and slam attacks.

  3. Defeat Nightmare

Avoid the fireballs, stack buffs by killing Root when you are transported to the nightmare realm, and hang in there. This boss fight is a marathon, not a sprint!
