Trait Inheritance System in Persona 5 Royal Explained

Persona 5 Royal includes quite a few gameplay changes, including mini dungeon expansions, and a brand new trait inheritance system for your Personas.

Here’s how it works: each Persona is tied with a few basic traits, and as you get into the fusion process, you can pick and choose from these traits and select one to be passed on to the new Persona that you’re trying to fuse.

This is called trait inheritance, and allows you to pass on traits that you feel would be best suited to your new Persona and your own needs. These traits can range from decreasing the SP cost of certain types of spells, to increasing skill damage and the effectiveness or duration of specific skills.

How to Use It

Whenever you’re about to fuse a new Persona in the Velvet Room, aside from just choosing the skills you want to pass on, you’ll also be able to choose from three traits. These traits seem to be random, and will be tied to the base Personas you’re using for the fusion process.

Once you’ve selected the trait you want to pass on, go ahead with the fusion process as per normal. The trait will automatically activate in battle whenever you use the relevant skill type associated with it.
