Paper Mario Origami King: How to Turn Off Motion Controls

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

As is the case with a lot of first-party Nintendo Switch games, Paper Mario: The Origami King has motion controls turned on by default. These are used to control Mario’s 1000-fold arms which you’ll be using in boss battles, solving the paper-based puzzles you come across, and opening up secret pathways. If motion controls aren’t really your thing, or you’re just out in public and don’t want to look like a loon, you may be praying to the big Nintendo God up in the sky that there’s a way you can turn motion controls off in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

Turning Off Motion Controls in Paper Mario: The Origami King

Simply follow the steps below to turn off motion controls:

  1. Press + on your right Joy-Con to access the Menu.
  2. Go to the little Cog icon in the top right-hand corner to access settings.
  3. Select the ‘Motion Controls’ option and use the left analog stick to turn it off.

This can be done as soon as you’re put in control of the paper-thin plumber. If you ever decide that you’d like to turn them back on, you can just head back to this option at any point and toggle the mode back to ‘On.’

With motion controls off, you’ll use the left analog stick and the A button to control movements and ‘hitting’ actions respectively.

There you have all you need to know to enjoy Paper Mario: The Origami King without having to wave your arms around! You can check out more of our coverage on the game below.
