Octopath Traveler: Are There Cheats?

Octopath Traveler is finally out and it brings classic, traditional, and exclusive JRPG action to the Nintendo Switch. In Octopath Traveler, you’ll start out as one of eight heroes each with their own abilities, motivation and journeys, and over time, all of the characters’ will connect in someway in the story. That, in addition to fantastic-looking classic visuals, and a complicated, yet satisfying combat/party system is the allure of Octopath Traveler. Because a lot the game is rooted in old-school gaming memories, one might be wondering if that extends out to include cheats and codes as well.

Although never really as much a staple in JRPGs, cheats in the 90s and early 2000s were very common, and firing up the old Game Shark is a fond memory for many older gamers like myself. Some newer ports for PC like Final Fantasy VII do feature some cheats and console codes that you can take advantage of. So it wouldn’t be unheard of if Octopath Traveler did feature something similar.

Alas, if your hope was for this game to have cheat codes, we got some bad news for you. There are no cheat codes in Octopath Traveler, at least none that we have been able to find. Our reviews editor Zhiqing Wan has poured an obscene amount of hours into the game pre-release in preparation for her review, and didn’t come across any. Sure it’s possible that we missed something, and if we did, we’ll update this post accordingly. But as far as we know, there are no cheats. You’ll need to complete the game as the developers intended.
