The Imperial Decree Shotgun, recently released as of the Season of Opulence update to Destiny 2, is arguably one of the best kinetic shotguns you can get in Destiny 2 right now. As a result, lots of Guardians are out there grinding for the best possible roll. This attention is warranted because there are not a lot of great shotguns that you can use the kinetic slot. If you want to get in on the grind, here’s how to get the Imperial Decree Shotgun in Destiny 2.
Getting the Imperial Decree Shotgun in Destiny 2
Upgrading the Chalice of Opulence
Before you can even dream of getting yourself the Imperial Decree, you first need to have a Chalice of Opulence. If you don’t have a Chalice of Opulence yet, you can follow our step by step guide on how to get it here, but long story short, follow through on The Invitation quest line that kicks off the Season of Opulence content and you’ll eventually have one.
After that, you’ll need to start collecting Imperials so you can upgrade your Chalice. Once again, we have guides for how to get Imperials and how upgrade the Chalice. If you know all that already though you can skip ahead.
The key upgrade you need to work up to is Rune Compatibility III. This cost 6000 Imperials on its own and requires that you have Rune Compatibility II and I as well which costs 2500 and 3500 Imperials respectively. So in essence, you need a grand total of 12,000 Imperials, yikes. Start grinding.
The reason you need Rune Compatibility III for the Imperial Decree Shotgun is because that last compatibility upgrade allows you to obtain and slot blue runes, which are needed to guarantee the drop of shotguns.
Ensuring That You Get the Imperial Decree Shotgun in Destiny 2
Just putting the blue Shotgun rune, Rune of Wealth, into the top slot doesn’t guarantee that you’ll specifically get the Imperial Decree, only that you’ll get a shotgun.
To make sure you get the Imperial Decree, slot a green rune into the left slot as that’s the crafting recipe for that particular weapon. You can put whatever you want in the right slot, or not, it’s up to you.
After you’ve done that you’re ready to go to the Menagerie and complete the craft. Complete the activity and loot the chest at the end to receive your weapon.
What Are Good Perks for the Imperial Decree Shotgun?
It honestly comes down to your personal preference. However, if you’re asking us, the general consensus is that for PvE or Gambit, Trench Barrel is a great perk that you can’t go wrong with.
It was popularized when the Ikelos shotgun broke onto the scene, and it’s still a great perk for Imperial Decree too.
For PvP, Slideshot or Snapshot are you two best bets depending if you’re a slider or not. Obviously, go with Snapshot if you’re not going to slide a lot.
That’s all you need to know for how to get the Imperial Decree in Destiny 2. Best of luck hunting for that god roll!
