How to Show Ping, Packet Loss & More in Fortnite

Recommended Videos

There are a ton of different settings you can tweak and adjust in Fortnite. Whether it’s the sensitivity of your controls in general, or when you’re aiming down sights, right through to adding and tweaking different elements of your HUD. Ping is incredibly important in online games. It determines basically how quickly information can be transferred between your PC or console, to the Fortnite servers and back again. At least, in this specific example. As such, you may be wondering how to show ping, packet loss, and more network usage information in Fortnite.

Chances are if you’re asking this, you’ve probably seen streamers like Ninja with this information up at the top of their display. It’s actually fairly easy for you to get the same information up in the game.

All you need to do is head into Fortnite’s settings. However, in order to show ping, packet loss, and other network stats like this, you’ll need to be in a game first.

How to Access the HUD Settings on All Platforms in Fortnite

To do this, load up into a game of Solos, Duos… whatever you want. Once you’re in, you’re going to want to push the Options button on PS4. That’s the Menu button on Xbox One, Plus on Nintendo Switch, or ESC on PC. Then, look for the little cog icon. Select this to head into the game’s settings.

You’re going to stay on the Game menu, but you’ll need to tab over to the HUD tab. You can do so by pressing the R2 button on PS4, RT on Xbox One, and ZR on Switch. PC players just click on it.

You’re now looking for an option called ‘Net Debug Stats.’ This is turned off by default. Surprise surprise, by turning it on, you’ll be able to show ping in Fortnite, packet loss, and more. This will be displayed at the top of the screen as you’ve seen in the likes of Ninja’s videos.

It’s important to note that you cannot access the HUD tab within the game settings if you’re not in an actual game of Fortnite. If you’re just sat in the lobby, you won’t be able to access it. As such, you’re best adjusting this setting when you’re in the Battle Bus waiting to land. Or, if you’ve got time to burn, in the pre-game lobby.

That’s everything you need to know to show ping in Fortnite, among other things.
