Fortnite Deleted: Is it Really Getting Deleted? What You Need to Know

Fortnite is a video game tour de force. Even in the face of massive releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, it’s still the hottest multiplayer game. People just can’t get enough of it. So much so that the thought of the game being deleted –however crazy and unlikely that should sound to you– has caused a bit of a panic amongst its player base. But where did this Fornite deleted rumor come from in the first place and is it really true? Here’s what you need to know.

Elon Musk, the inventor and entrepreneur behind the all-electric Tesla car manufacturer, as well as the Space-X reusable rocket program, is a clever guy. He’s also a bit of a troll from time to time.

Over the weekend, Elon Musk made a very bold claim via a tweet. The tweet featured a screenshot of a headline which stated he’d purchased Fortnite from Epic Games and swiftly deleted it from existence. Musk seemed to confirm the article’s premise (Fortnite deleted) with a message attached to the tweet, which read “had to been done ur welcome.”

According to the article’s subheading, Musk is keen to save children from “eternal virginity.” As you can imagine, the internet had a field day, and disgruntled gamers unhappy with the insult took to Twitter to mock the inventor. But don’t worry, guys, he’s only kidding.

Elon Musk has not bought Fortnite, and even if he had we’d suggest it’s highly unlikely he’d shut down the multi-million dollar enterprise. After all, he’s a gamer himself, with a keen interest in installing video games into the design of his upcoming Tesla vehicles. So Fortnite deleted was just Musk pulling our legs…

Unfortunately, it seems the joke was lost in translation.

This isn’t the first time, of course, that Fortnite has been rumored to be shutting down. Earlier in the year, in the midst of a 12-hour server maintenance period and coinciding with April Fool’s, rumors suddenly started flying around that Fortnite was gone for good.

The same thing happened later in September when a fake reporting the game’s imminent shutdown was tweeted from a fake Epic Games account. On both occasions, the fanbase worked themselves into a frenzy believing the gag was true, and on both occasions, Epic Games shut the rumors down swiftly.

So if you’d heard that Fortnite was being deleted you can rest easy –The Fortnite deleted rumor is firmly untrue and the game is here to stay.
