This week saw the release of the brand new Cindered Shadows DLC for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This massive update brings with it a brand new Side Story, four new characters, and four new classes to play around with. It’s a pretty exciting one. Here’s how to get the Abyssian Exam Pass in Fire Emblem Cindered Shadows.

How to Get Abyssian Exam Pass in Fire Emblem Cindered Shadows

Abyssian Exam Passes are new items that you can use in the main game once you’ve progressed past a certain point in the Cindered Shadows scenario. More specifically, once you’ve completed the first chapter of the Side Story, the Abyss will become a new area you can explore in the Monastery in the main game, and you’ll also receive your first Abyssian Exam Pass.

All you have to do is load up your save file from the main game, and you should receive a notification informing you that the Abyss is now available, and that you’ve gotten your first Pass.

You’ll only get that first Pass for free, though; the rest have to be earned. To get more, head down to the Abyss by talking to the Shifty Merchant NPC outside Byleth’s room, and then visit the Pagan Statue in the area.

From here, you’ll be able to offer renown points in exchange for items or weapons. Choose the Items option, scroll all the way down, and you’ll see that you can purchase an Abyssian Exam Pass for 750 renown points.

If you’re on a new game playthrough, this can be a bit expensive, especially if you’re focusing on upgrading the saint statues in the cathedral. With that in mind, it might be better to grab your Passes on a new game plus playthrough instead, when you have more flexibility in how you can spend your excess renown points.

What They’re For

The Cindered Shadows DLC introduces four new special classes, each of which can only be unlocked if you meet the stat requirements, and if you have an Abyssian Exam Pass. While the other regular classes required Seals, you’ll need Passes for these special ones.

Simply choose the Certifications option from Byleth’s off day menu as usual, and then look for the Special Classes category to see the four new jobs. If your character meets the stat requirements, you can then spend an Abyssian Exam Pass to have them take the exam and try to unlock it.
