Though there are times when you’ll want to have your weapon at the ready in Death Stranding, there are just as many times when you’ll want to have it stowed away for later use. That’s why we’re here to walk you through how to holster your weapon in Death Stranding.

How to Holster Your Weapon in Death Stranding

Like most other pieces of equipment in Death Stranding, weapons are equipped to your character by holding down the right directional button on the D-Pad.

This will open your inventory and allow you to select items you wish to use and equip, which you can cycle through by tilting the right analogue stick left or right.

To put weapons away though, the process is quite simple: All you have to do is press the right directional button on the D-Pad and you’ll return the weapon to your side or your pack.

When You Should Holster Your Weapon

As for why you’d want to holster your weapon, the answer is tied to Death Stranding’s balancing mechanics.

While your hands are free, you can keep yourself from toppling over and losing your packages by pressing down the L2 and R2 buttons. This will make your character’s hands grip the straps to the cargo on your back while rebalancing yourself and establish a better grip to the ground below you.

However, if you have a weapon equipped, you’ll be unable to do this, your hands full keeping a weapon at the ready for a confrontation with an enemy.

As such, it’s beneficial to holster your weapon when you don’t need it. This will ensure you don’t go tumbling down a hill or mountain needlessly, and allow you to secure the best score possible during whatever delivery you’re making.
