Wargroove (Release Date: Feb. 1)

wargroove, February 2019 Game Releases

Quickly gaining steam as a surprise hit on the Nintendo Switch, Wargroove combines the styles and strategic elements of games like Advanced Wars and Fire Emblem for a title that’s hard not to take notice of.

Taking control of one of 13 commanders, players are tasked with traveling across the game’s world in search of conquest, allies and a way to cement their legacy.

This is easier said than done though, as the world is full of rival factions and forces that are just as keen to grind players into dust and create their own empires.

As such, achieving victory comes down to creative use of an army’s units in every situation, and the only thing standing between the player and victory is the question of how they want to proceed.

And that only covers the game’s single-player mode. Wargroove also offers local and online multiplayer, allowing players to pit their carefully crafted forces against others near and far to see who is the true master of strategy.

It’s a title with no shortage of content, and considering Wargroove has already recouped its development costs in only three days, it’s sure to be a game many are talking about for the foreseeable future.

Crackdown 3 (Release Date: Feb. 15)

crackdown 3, xbox one x

The development process for Crackdown 3 has been anything but ideal, but that only makes it that much better to see it finally on the horizon.

Letting players loose in the city of New Providence, the game offers a design style similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

If they want to carefully dismantle all of the city’s gangs one at a time, players can do that; or, if they’d like to stage a violent blitz on the game’s final location from the get-go, they can do that too.

It’s all left open for the player to decide, and with a Nemesis System-esque feature where gangs target you the more you target them, the player’s choices can have lasting effects on their overall experience.

Even if it’s not to be the messiah of Xbox One gaming its long development cycle would lead some to believe, the title still shows promise as a game most anyone should check out if they have the chance.

Far Cry: New Dawn (Release Date: Feb. 15)

Far Cry New Dawn nintendo switch, new dawn switch version, far cry switch

Set after the apocalyptic events of Far Cry 5, Far Cry: New Dawn is set to take the series in a strange but promising new direction.

In the aftermath of the nuclear bomb detonations at the end of the last game, survivors have done their best to endure their new life in a post-apocalyptic United States.

Enclaves of safety and civilization have been formed, but so too have raider gangs eager to tear them apart for their resources. As a result, the only thing that stands between the wasteland’s citizens and destruction might be your timely intervention.

Though it sounds a bit bleak on paper, the premise is injected with the usual insanity and personality fans have come to expect of the Far Cry series.

Instead of a bleak and dreary wasteland full of monsters and maniacs, the world is awash with splashes of color from its plants, wildlife and colorfully-dressed raiders.

Likewise, the leaders of the raiders are two ambitious sisters out to make the wasteland theirs by any means necessary, and drip with the psychopathic charisma that any Far Cry antagonist needs to have.

It’s still anyone’s guess how the final product will pan out, but with so much promising material shown of it so far, there’s sure to be something of interest for fans new and old alike.

Best Games Coming Out in February 2019

Metro Exodus (Release Date: Feb. 15)

Metro Exodus, PC, System Requirements, RTX

Whereas past Metro titles sought to leave players feeling isolated and trapped in post-apocalyptic subway tunnels, Metro Exodus is instead set to let them out into the remains of a destroyed world.

Once thought to be poisonous and untraversable, it is discovered by series protagonist Artyom that the surface is actually inhabitable.

As a result, he and his Spartan Ranger allies must venture out into the world to see what hopes and horrors lie waiting for humanity, and whether there may be a chance for life on the surface once again.

As the premise suggests, the game offers a much more open world than past entries.

While it still contains tense and confined sections set in the underground metros of Moscow, there are also sections which set players free in a massive world full of wonder and danger alike.

It’s a bold new step for the series to take, but also one that is sure to turn some heads upon its release.

Anthem (Release Date: Feb. 22)

Anthem, best co-op games coming in 2019

It’s not often a developer puts the bulk of their weight behind a new IP, but in the case of BioWare’s Anthem, it looks to be a gamble that could be a boon for the developer and players alike.

A third-person action title set in space, the game puts players in the role of a cybernetic suit-equipped mercenary known as a Freelancer.

Tasked with completing missions for the good of humanity and their faction of choice, they must take on interstellar threats alone or alongside allies, all the while working to uncover a plot that could threaten the human race.

Boasting a mix of BioWare’s story-driven trademarks with the multiplayer design of titles like Destiny, Anthem is lush with customization options and player choice alike.

Everything from the color and design of one’s armor to the abilities and techniques one can use in combat are up to players to decide.

Likewise, the game provides support for both single and multiplayer play, allowing players to take on Anthem and its world however they like.

Top it off with some of the most fluid-looking flight-based gameplay around and you’ve got a title that has a high chance of making waves in the industry for years to come.
