Left Alive (Release Date: March 5)

Not much is known about Square Enix’s new survival action game Left Alive, but what has been revealed provides more than enough reason to be interested in how it will turn out.

Set in the Front Mission universe, the title puts players in the shoes of three different characters as they struggle to survive the Garmoniyan invasion.

This alien race boasts superior technology and fire power, forcing players to be tactical with when and how they attack. Some might require sneaking around to find an ideal point of attack, while others might be caught off guard by a sudden blitz.

Outside of combat, players also have to scavenge for supplies, ensuring they’ll be able to keep up their strength for the next assault.

It’s an interesting mix of mechanics and player freedom, and whether it proves to be the next big thing or a glorious train wreck, players won’t want to miss out on seeing what becomes of this project.

Devil May Cry 5 (Release Date: March 8)

Devil May Cry 5, Secret Missions

After more than a decade, the Devil May Cry series is finally set to receive a new mainline entry with Devil May Cry 5, and it looks to be a triumphant return to form.

Set several years after the events of Devil May Cry 4, the game sees Nero, Dante, and a mysterious devil hunter named V drawn to the demon-filled locale of Red Grave City.

Each is determined to stop the mysterious figure known as Urizen from using the chaos to increase his own power and become the king of the underworld. To that end, they’ll use their powers to tear through any enemies that stand in their way.

It’s about what players would expect from a Devil May Cry plot, but it’s a good enough set up for the usual hack and slash action; which, thanks to the game’s three different protagonists, looks more varied and diverse than ever before.

Slinging enemies around with Nero’s Devil Breaker, cutting through them with Dante’s myriad of weapons and setting demonic beasts on them with V all appear different enough that players will be hard pressed to find a better action fix.

Time will tell how good it ends up being, but given its early march release date, fans will be able to find out for themselves sooner rather than later.

The Division 2 (Release Date: March 15)

Ubisoft looks to have learned from its mistakes with The Division 2, a sequel with plenty of innovations and improvements compared to its predecessor.

Set seven months after the events of the first game, players now find themselves in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Washington D.C.

Order and peace have been replaced by danger and fear, with the more vicious of the city’s survivors terrorizing what remains of the populace.

As such, players can team up with one another for parties of up to eight members and take on those that seek to control the ruined city, scavenging for resources and better equipment as they go.

Outside of the core gameplay, players can also take part in a myriad of multiplayer gameplay, from PvP in the city’s Dark Zones to the newly added Raid challenges.

It all goes to show that the sequel has plenty of promise, and those who wished the first Division had been better will definitely want to see whether this sequel sticks the landing.

One Piece: World Seeker (Release Date: March 15)

One Piece, One Piece: World Seeker, Game Releases March 2019

It’s not often an anime game strays from the musou and fighter genres, but in the case of Bandai Namco Entertainment’s One Piece: World Seeker it looks like it was a wise decision.

Set on the newly imagined locale of Jail Island, the game lets players loose as Monkey D. Luffy in an open world full of enemies to battle, new friendships to form, and evil plots concocted by the island’s warden that are in need of smashing.

Unlike some past One Piece title’s though, Luffy’s full array of moves are at the player’s disposal.

In addition to using combat techniques like the Gum Gum Pistol and Gear Fourth, players can scale buildings and fly through the air using Luffy’s Gum Gum abilities.

As such, traveling through the world gives off the appearance of an episode of the anime brought to life, made all the more immersive thanks to the accompanying soundtrack composed by Kohei Tanaka.

It’s one of the more promising anime games the industry has seen in a while, and whether you’re a fan of open world games or just a die-hard One Piece lover, World Seeker should be at the top of your list for releases to watch.

The Sinking City (Release Date: March 21)

upcoming open world games, The Sinking City, Game Releases March 2019

An interesting take how to create a game based around Lovecraftian mythology, The Sinking City is an open world title with its fair share of quirks.

Developed by Frogwares, the game tasks players with uncovering the cause behind a mysterious flood in New England. This is easier said than done though, as the flood has brought with it odd entities and a spreading madness set to take hold of the entire city.

As such, the player’s investigation becomes a race against time as they try to piece together the mystery, uncovering plots and evading danger all the while.

The game has been boasted as incredibly open-ended, with the player left to their own devices on where to go, who they interact with, and how they arrive at their disturbing conclusions.

It’s ambitious to be sure, but given what’s been shown of the game so far, there’s more than a few promising elements that could make the title a surprise hit in the gaming community.

Seeker: Shadows Die Twice (Release Date: March 22)

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Game Releases March 2019

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the latest offering from Dark Souls and Bloodborne developer FromSoftware, and based on what’s been shown of it so far, it’s likely another cult classic in the making.

Placing players in the role of Sekiro, a shinobi out for revenge against the samurai that left him for dead, the game tasks them with overcoming all manner of deadly and punishing challenges on the road to their vengeance.

Some stages might require players to overcome human foes, dodging arrows and steel, or evading traps. Others, meanwhile, will pit them against massive otherworldly foes out of legend, thought unbeatable by all but the most superhuman warrior.

All the same, the player has to figure out how they’ll overcome these challenges, utilizing every strategy and technique at their disposal to come out on top.

It’s sure to be a challenge on par with what players have come to expect out of From, and given it’s the first new property the studio has put out in years, there’s all the more reason to witness what could be a new franchise in the making.

Yoshi’s Crafted World (Release Date: March 29)

switch games, Game Releases March 2019

Given the gritty, gory and grim fare set to release this month, some players might be in the mood for something light and charming. Enter Yoshi’s Crafted World, a delightful 2.5-D platforming romp through the titular green dinosaur’s world.

Tasked with finding their way through the game’s different stages, players must interact with the environments in different ways to solve puzzles and progress towards the end.

This could mean hoping across hazards and exploring the stage’s many layers; or, it could mean hoping between the game’s foreground and background, applying a three-dimensional mindset to the otherwise flat world.

All the while, players will be treated to a craft world aesthetic that gives the game a sense of childish imagination in the best way possible.

Sure, it may not have over the top action or violence, but given how delightful and positive it is, it’s sure to put a smile on the face of almost anyone who plays it.
